The original trailer looked better than what we're currently seeing tbh.

I'm amazed it's still in development. I thought a game of it's caliber, from a vet no less, would have been done by now.

Do you mean this?

That was concept art.
The first gameplay trailer looked like this:

And then there was this one:

And then here's today's look for comparison:

I think it looks significantly better now.

Anyways, yeah, I was impressed by Bloodstained too, it's looking a lot better now. Graphically it's still really ugly, but whereas in the past it was just plain ugly, now it's ugly in a charming sort of way, it gives me some good PS1 vibes (yes I am aware PS1 games didn't look this good, that's not my point). It's a nostalgic kind of ugly, in the same way the terrible voice acting is nice. Sometimes worse is better... or something. I don't know.

Yeah, I think I get what you're saying with the PS1 vibes. When I say I think it looks good, it's considering how it looked up until this point, and that it's an indie title. It's not a light and day difference, but I feel like it just passed the point where I don't think everything looks bland any more, and I even enjoy looking at it.
The initial target release date was 2017, so a while back I didn't think we would even get to this point where it looks like this.

Eh, it kinda is a light and day difference. It had looked bad and bland for years, now it looks bad with character. When I say PS1, I'm probably thinking mostly of one game this is reminding me of specifically, which is Pandemonium.

That was concept art.

So, it's basically like Might No. 9. At least from an aesthetic standpoint.

That's a bit of stretch.

But while we're on the subject of the concept art, maybe for the sequel they can make it look like a Blazblue game. I'd imagine with the funding and pre-sales alone (including yours truly) this game is already a success.

Eh, I think it's more down to laziness than budget/time. Other indie Metroidvanias have had detailed hand-drawn environments, without as much budget or development time as Bloodstained.

Just noticed I said light and day instead of night and day.
What I meant was that you can still very much see that it's the same game, unlike let's say the way Ocarina of Time looked in Alpha images, vs the finished product. That was more like a major overhaul. But in this case it was more of enhancing the smaller details, which can have a dramatic effect on the overall look as well. I think it looks significantly better now because of that.

I never played Pandemonium, but I do remember seeing adds for it back in the day.

I'd have to disagree. I think the original looked better, especially the concept shot. The current one just feels and looks like another run of the mill CV clone.

Ok, it's not really a stretch. The same exact thing happened with mighty no. 9. It was pretty clear it was concept art, but the concept art was still vastly superior to the actual 3D graphics that were used. Not saying the game won't be good but it's almost the exact same situation honestly.

That's what I imagine they might do. Use the sales of this to support 2D art for the next game. Then again maybe not, maybe they'd rather go for consistency.
