A fair fate for a platform that had some good software, but was ultimately not good hardware.

3DS alongside Vita, are platforms that recived biggest hit from phone/tablet gaming, and thats one of main reasons, why 3DS will be worst selling Nintendo handheld and while Vita done so bad.

3DS was also just pretty bad hardware. It was focused on a gimmick nobody ended up using in the long run, the lack of a second analogue stick was an absurd oversight, and the screen was of obscenely low quality.

In worst case its improved DS hardware.

DS's key "gimmick" paid off though while 3DS's did not. And one analogue stick was less of an embarrassing goof in 2005 than in 2011.

But thats a point, 3DS has same DS "gimmick", of course it did not have effect like it did when DS was launched, but you cant say that 3DS is much worse hardware than DS in any case.

I dont think that's what he is saying. 3D aside, 3DS is just a straight forward DS successor is what he meant by improved DS hardware.

I can say it's worse hardware than the DS, but that's a strawman.

Taken on its own merits, 3DS is bad hardware.

I can say it's worse hardware than the DS as its central gimmick (3D) was ultimately unwanted while DS's big new feature (dual screen) was generally liked.

Also one analogue input wasn't a huge problem for a portable in 2005, but for a portable in 2011 is was a terrible mistake.

DS was well designed hardware in its time while 3DS was badly designed in its time.

Since when did DS have an analog pad?

My bad, meant to write lacking dual analogue.

So 1 analog in 2011 is worse than no analog in 2005? That's kind of weird logic. In both cases they were a step behind the competition (PSP had 1, Vita had 2)

The kind of games both platforms gwere built for made it more of an issue for 3DS than DS, hence why 3DS tried clumsily to rectify the situation with the Circle Pad Pro and the nub on the New 3DS while IIRC DS never needed to attempt such revisionism.
