They lowered pretty aggressively likely so that in March they can probably beat that 17 million number by a bit and then say they beat their last forecast and get positive news that way.

20 mill was always a ridiculous number given the lineup they had, they were way too caught up in Labo being a blue ocean hit.

17+ mill is still a very healthy number for Switch that's comparable, maybe a bit more than PS4 in its second full year on the market.

Tbone was wrong! Only 12.

Seriously though, software is extremely good all around.

32.27 as of Dec 2018 is pretty dang good(based off JapaneseNintendos twitter), as we end Jan its prob over 33m now, which would make it a damn good number for a console thats 1 year 10 months old as of Jan 2019.

Oct-Dec 9.4m is a big holiday, funny it nearly sold more in 3 months than Wii U did its whole life time, silly Wii U, i sill wub you

20m to 17m forecast is a bummer, few people here on VGC called it months ago though, so great job to them!

Those software sales are monstrous, so many 10m sellers. Splatoon 2 will be the next to 10m. MK9 will be the first to hit 20m it looks like.

Pokemon Lets Go 10m? geez, so much for it ''flopping''. If a spin off that ''nobody likes'' can pull in 10m. What is the true traditional Gen 8 going to do as far as numbers go? gonna be insane if Gamefreak doesnt mess it up xD

The software forecast for Switch was raised from 100M to 110M. This is probably even more of a low-ball projection than their new hardware forecast, since to reach 110M, they only have to be flat YoY in software when compared to Q4 in the last fiscal year. For reference, they were up 101% in the holiday quarter.

After seeing that forecast reduction for hardware, I'm guessing that we won't get a direct until March.

Posting here as well since it has more data than the other thread. The 20m forecast not happening sucks for sure but good results nevertheless. Super Smash Bros. did really well.

Bloody hell, over 12 million for Smash in under a month, that's insane.

And 10 million for Let's Go in spite of it being a remake with a mixed reception.

BOTW and Odyssey continue to be monsters; has the latter just become the highest selling 3D Mario ever with these numbers, or was it already there as of the last quarterly report?

Splatoon 2 guaranteed to pass 10 million at this point.

Pokemon, Super Mario Party and Smash did extremely well and the quarterly numbers for Switch were good.

It's obvious Labo has been a flop and not driven hardware sales in anyway whatsoever. It was clear Nintendo anticipated Labo helping drive Switch up to 20 million units. The revision down to 17 million now seems too conservative - if sales remain flat versus last year, shipments would come in at ~17.4 million. I'm still expecting a quarter in the 3 to 3.5 million range, so 17 to 17.9 million for the financial year, which keeps Switch tracking similarly to PS4, launch-aligned.

The lesson to Nintendo should be to pace their releases consistently. Here's hoping Luigi's Mansion 3, Animal Crossing and Pokemon generation 8 are paced out, with the smaller titles (Fire Emblem, Daemon X Machina, Marvel Ultimate Alliance etc) coming at a regular clip, too. A Direct in the next couple of weeks seems likely, given the leaks of third party ports this week (AC 3, Darksiders).
