Forums - Politics Discussion - Trump Plans to Challenge the Constitutional Definition of Birthright Citizenship

Birthright citizenship is dumb, you should not be able to claim citizenship in a country you have no real connection to. But i don't think one person should be allowed to make an unilateral decision to change the constitution of a country.

How does someone have no connection when they're born and raised in a place?

I am no talking about when they are grown up, i am talking about when they are still newborns. Should have clarified that, my mistake

Being born somewhere still means you have a connection to that place more so than any other place at that moment that's still a contradiction.

"My question, what are people thoughts on this current move by President Trump."

what move? what steps has he taken to do this?

I think they should get the citizenship to the country the parents belong to.

They're not born in their parents country though as things go the new born only has connections to the place they're born that's the whole point, other countries for example aren't going to hand out citizenship by default just because your dad was from there otherwise half the world would be duo citizens.

The other flaw is going by what you're saying here only Mexicans (ironically) and Native Americans should be US citizens because the rest of America had ancestry born outside of the country meaning most of them are British, Spanish and French citizens as they'd all have to be EU citizens because that's who their ancestors belonged to under your view.

No it's just your point of view has contradictions which you've not really addressed I'm not the only to say this either which highlights this.

Lol I don't think the 14th amendment was meant to apply to the children of those who come in illegally. Also, I don't think Trump can change the constitution with a swipe of his pen.

If he were to put foward an executive order it would be declared invalid until it goes through the courts.

OP: He shouldn't do that imo. Anyone born in the United States is a citizen end of story. Instead he should go after the chain migration .

What if that country does not offer them citizenship since they aren't born there?
