Forums - General Discussion - iTV, anybody? anybody at all?

Does anybody have this? if so, are you satisfied? Does anybody know if anyone has it? Is this thing taking off? bombing? what's the deal?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

It's Apple TV I thought now... And it looks like a pile of crap to me...I think the general public isn't even aware of it...it'll bomb and fade away...and it won't matter, there'll be another somewhere down the line.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

since the iPod there seems to be some idea that everything Steve Jobs touches turns to gold. I don't really see a market for this kind of device yet (although I'd buy it if it had a tuner card to install MythTV) I don't think it will be very successful at all, maybe in a few years when you can stream television over the Internet and all the major studios are doing it.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

analysts generally agree that this iTV is just to straighten out bugs and used as a an improvement for future versions.

not quite big time yet; good for itune maniacs, little use for others.

the Wii is an epidemic.

People seem to forget that the ipod took a few generations before it took off... Anyway the Apple TV has a shitload of hacks that really expand the capabiliy, but for the mst part its nothing a few year old PC hooked up to a tv cant do

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

My desk setup has dual monitors, with a 23" TV above the monitors, all hooked up to my PC. I don't really need a streaming device, as I have my TV there already, and I can stream whatever I want into it if I feel like it. Like if I'm watching streaming TV or something on Youtube, sometimes I like to drag and drop it onto my TV so I have my two monitors free.

Here's what you can do: Buy or download movies digitally and send them to your AppleTV. The only problem is, the resolution is only DVD-resolution, not HD. I think Apple is just releasing this as sort of a preview of AppleTV 2nd generation, that can actually play 1280x720 movies. I'd totally get that.... Maybe the future isn't Blu-ray or HD-DVD, but people just downloading 720p movies from Apple.com.

Obviously, digital video is not a mass market like digital audio yet, so people should not bash the Apple TV for low sales. I think it's a neat device for zero-setup media streaming. It works as advertised: If it's on iTunes, it's on your TV.

Like Ben, we mostly watch our TV and movies on the computer screen and don't really need the content on the living room TV, but I will get the Apple TV for my mum this Christmas. She has a few hundred songs from the iTunes store, and I will also get her an EyeTV so she can record TV shows and send them to the Apple TV (again, zero-setup). I'm sure she will love it. Apple products are not about features, they're about usability.
