Damn, that's impressive! Great job compiling all that data, Peelman.

I think I might steal some of those stats

Thanks!

And up 17 for Banjo, that's a lot .

Hey, sorry i'm late to the party. Here are the images for my final two; i'll add descriptions later ^^

Ah, I'm so late.

#2 - Dark Souls

Dark Souls. I might be the only person (mad) enough to put a Souls game up this high. You may wonder, what makes Dark Souls so good that it's the 2nd best game of all time? In terms of game design, Dark Souls is almost perfect. Dark Souls starts you off in a dark and hostile world, even the tutorial, only tells you the controls before unleashing it's punishing difficulty on new players. There is a degree of customisation, gender, class, etc. When you chose a class however you're not limited to that specific task, a pyromancer can still use melee and switch into a heavy melee style if they so choose. You can also level up like any other RPG, although you only have one ability point per level and you will soon figure out that leveling is not as effective in Dark Souls as it is in other games, especially since you use Souls to level up which you also use to upgrade your weapons and buy equipment.

In terms of equipment, Dark Souls is very versatile, you can use practically any weapon or armour you find and carry through with that to the end of the game, each have their own specific pros and cons that balances out the different equips and prevents any one weapon or armour being the absolute best and only way to play. It's definitely fun to try another playthrough with a different loadout and play style and definitely extends the life of the game.

Once you get out of the tutorial, you are placed in an area which works as a hub to access the other areas of the game in a pusedo-open world way. New players will find that there is only really one way to take without getting destoryed by the powerful enemies, but experienced players can take these dangerous paths for greater rewards such as certain weapons, spells or other items. The game design is built around all types of players and experience/skill levels which despite the high difficulty of the game, it's still accessible. Death in Dark Souls might seem punishing at first, when you die, you lose all of your humanity and souls. However you can recover if you make it back to the place you died, and on top of that, there are no game overs. The better you become at the game, the less punishing deaths will become.

Really that's what makes Dark Souls so much fun. Without any superfical elements, you become more powerful in the game by learning the patterns of enemies, bosses, tricks and tips. You'll be able to completely destory bosses, in the same way they destoryed you and this all varies on your level of skill which is definitely in my opinion one of the most rewarding feelings you can have from a video game, especially a game which is known to be very difficult.

#1 - Super Metroid

Super Metroid so far I think is the best that a 2D action platformer can get. In a similar way to Dark Souls, Super Metroid is designed with all types of players in mind. The tutorial, opposed to Dark Souls, is very open and allows the player to experiment and get used to the controls without punishment. As soon as the tutorial feels you learnt enough, it's time to put your platforming skills to the test and get the hell out before the place explodes. One you arrive on Zebes, you'll find that you have quite a lot of choice to explore and progress depending on what items you have to open certain paths. New players are probably going to play the game as intended, more or less in set pieces. But experienced players could use their skills like bomb jumping or the mock ball to get other items or open new paths much quicker. That type of freedom allows for replayability, along with the fact that you are free to choose (to an extent) how many items you want to collect, low%, any%, 100%, that choice is yours.

On the topic of items, Super Metroid greatly expands on what was previous avaliable in the previous two Metroid games. Along with returning beams like ice and wave, there are new ones such as spazer and plasma. The weapons can be combined and also turned off, a feature for some reason only really exculsive to Super Metroid. Along with that each of the beams have their own specific "super moves". The power bombs also make their introduction as a screen wide explosion dropped while in morph ball mode. Samus is also able to shoot in 8 different directions, greatly increasing her mobility, along with abilities such as the wall jump and the ability to run very fast with the speed booster power up.

Samus has to explore around Zebes in a variety of different environments to find Ridley and the Baby Metroid. Along the way she will encounter a variety of unique bosses and enemies, from giant dragon like enemies to a phantom in a wrecked ship. With that there are no arrows pointing where Samus needs to go or anybody telling her the objectives, you the player need to guide Samus around and use your own wits and tactics to explore the planet and powerups requried for certain areas. Along the way you are accompanied by the hostile Zebes environment, from gloomy oceanic basins to hot volcanic interior, you'll get sucked in and quickly lose yourself in the experience.

Super Metroid is a game which I found amazing back when I first played it a couple years back and today I still find amazing. It's a short game, only 2-6 hours long but a game that I managed to spend dozens to hunderds of hours in, a game which blew my mind when I heard the music and saw the sprite work, a game that bascially introduced me to the concept of speedrunning and showing me how deep the game really is. A game which has a legacy that continues to live on, inspiring future classics such as Castlevania SOTN, a game which is my favourite game ever.

Yeah, I had flirted with the idea of putting Tooie in my top 10 after I first played it. I chickened out in the end.

After thinking about it more, I realized that Tooie really is a masterpiece. It pushed the boundaries of platform games by eschewing self-contained levels and creating an interconnected overworld. It also has huge gameplay diversity, with dozens of moves and mini-games, and lots of genre-mashing episodes.

It really set the template for 3D open-world platforming, a template that has, unfortunately, never really been elaborated upon. The Precursor Legacy and Psychonauts came close, but neither achieved the interconnectedness of Tooie.

Buddy bump for my entry on the list of shame.

Yeah, right now I'm pestering users who haven't submitted their final lists. It's my least favorite part, but someone's gotta do it. :

After that I'm going to take all the data and start putting it together to make a complete (and very long) list of games, decided by 1. the positioning of the game on each users' list and 2. how many times the game appears on every gamers' list.

Then after that I need to format it to look good on the forums, and add other lists (games by date, system, series, etc.). Let me know if there's a certain kind of list you want to see.

All in all, I want this to be the best results celebration thread it can be. And that could take some time.

Some stats for my list that I finished prematurely:

Most popular year: 2013 (6)
Most popular publisher: Nintendo (30 lol)
Most popular developer: Nintendo EAD (9)
Most popular series (3+ games have been released for a particular IP): Mario (6)
Least popular series: Tie - F-Zero, Deus Ex, Animal Crossing, Tales, Bioshock, Shin Megami Tensei, and Resident Evil (1)
Most popular format used: Wii (11)
Least popular format used: GBA (3)

NNID: TheCCluc

What's this?! A late challenger appears.....

So, I really struggled filling out my list with the first real edits in two years. I had to expand to a top 60 to keep track.

50. The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor (PS4)

49. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Xbox)

48. Assassin's Creed II (PS3)

47. Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP)

46. Muramasa: Demon Blade (Wii)

45. Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call (3DS)

44. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS4)

43. Gravity Rush (PS Vita)

42. Star Fox 64 (N64)

41. Fire Emblem (GBA)
