Yeah, I had flirted with the idea of putting Tooie in my top 10 after I first played it. I chickened out in the end.
After thinking about it more, I realized that Tooie really is a masterpiece. It pushed the boundaries of platform games by eschewing self-contained levels and creating an interconnected overworld. It also has huge gameplay diversity, with dozens of moves and mini-games, and lots of genre-mashing episodes.
It really set the template for 3D open-world platforming, a template that has, unfortunately, never really been elaborated upon. The Precursor Legacy and Psychonauts came close, but neither achieved the interconnectedness of Tooie.
