Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii's graphically superior to anything last generation!

Xbox Cpu - 733 MHz Wii Cpu - 729 MHz Truth is not slander, its just a cold harsh stuff for a nintendo fanboy to accept.

I will probably still buy a wii but not until there are a few games the wife and kids want to play on it.

Aren't almost all the games on wii right now basically targeted at the wife and kids???  I'm pretty sure games like Wii Sports and WarioWare are the type of games that were supposed to catch the non-gamers eye. I'm guessing their hardcore gamers???

This data is pointless.  There is more to graphics than mhz.

Whats your point ?

Wii fanboy rant  - "a week or so ago a Microsoft exec claimed that the Wii was weaker then the X-Box. Now that is an illegal claim considering it is comming from an official competitor its slander and that is a crime"

I was just showing him how the MS exec was techincly correct, the Wii is weaker then the Xbox.

My point is that just because that part of x-box is technically stronger than wii doesn't mean the overall match-up is the same thing.  The way all systems are set-up currently stating one fact doesn't show it's superiority.  That kind of argument is more appropriate for the days of the bit era.  Before you could simply say this system cpu can do 16 megabytes so it has better graphics than that 8 megabyte system.

If you were to use an argument like that you could say the N64 could do better graphics than x-box, because x-box was using around 32 while n64 was 64.  Things today are hotwired to many different parts.  There is no one number you can throw out there to measure a system's power.

I don't really give a flying fuck how many times x machine is more powerful than y machine. As far as I am concerned the xbox and ps3 has dull remakes and sequals and 95% of the game are dull, boring, crap and not worth half the price they are sold for. Power is just something to brag about, it says nothing about the quality of games.

Joelcool7, you are delusional.

Gamecube: 485MHz CPU, 24MB ram, 162MHz GPU, 3MB GPU ram, 1.5GB per disc

PS2: 294MHz CPU, 32MB ram, 147MHz GPU, 4MB GPU ram, 4.7GB per disc

Dreamcast: 200MHz CPU, 16MB ram, GPU speed not listed on wikipedia, 8MB GPU ram, 1GB per disc

Xbox: 733MHz CPU, 64MB ram split between CPU and GPU, 233MHz GPU, 4.7GB per disc

Wii: 729MHz CPU, 24MB ram, 243MHz GPU, 64MB GPU ram, 4.7GB per disc

PS3: 3.2GHz CPU and 6 3.2GHz SPEs, 256 ram, 550MHz GPU, 256MB GPU ram, 50GB per disc

Xbox360: 3 3.2GHz CPUs, 512MB ram split between CPU and GPU, 500MHz GPU, 9.4GB per disc

So, the Wii is slightly more powerful than the xbox due to that ram tie-breaker. What a close battle. The PS2 is less powerful than the gamecube but somehow MGS, RE4, GoW, GoW2, and others managed to look as good as any last gen games. I suppose that would give the Wii some hope, except for the fact that every system listen is dwarfed by the power of the PS3 and 360. I think it's REALLY CLEAR when you look at those specs.

I don't care if you spend $100 million on a game, it will not look as good as PS3 or 360 games that are decently done (such as most of the ones out now). Sorry.

Now for this TV thing that is really pissing me off. Yes, I have played games on a SD TV and seen them on HD TVs, including my monitor. The difference is not vast. You have to have a large screen for it to even matter. Motorstorm, Resistance, etc look great either way, and easily better than anything on last-gen and Wii.

Now, when browsing on the PSN the page looks a heck of a lot better because there is more on the screen. When playing a game I hardly notice. I'm not sure what else to tell you here because the fact remains that you can appreciate graphical enhancements in games no matter what TV you use. TVs just make the image sharper, they do not add textures to the freaking characters and detail to the backgrounds. All the display does is just that: display the image. Whatever is there is up to the hardware to provide. Yes, HD looks more clear and the higher res allows more to be seen (also in Oblivion which I've played too much), but the graphics are still great on SD.

Ugh god. The xbox cpu and gamecube/wii cpu's are from very different processor families with very different architechture types. Let me just say that a few years ago we had 2 gigahertz processors beating the pants off of 3 gigahertz processors in pretty much all benchmarks. That should tell you something about comparing them. (Let me give you a hint, the xbox cpu isn't the better architecture by any means)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Yeah I gotta agree here. Mhz means nothing. Total texture memory dont mean much either. Look at FF12, agianst almost any x-box game.

The Wii has roughly the same ammount of power as the X-box. Which one is faster, has yet to be decided untill we see what comes long-term from the Wii in comparison.

I kinda like the X-box still. Escape from Butchers Bay looks so much better than anything on the Wii yet. We shall see long term tho.

 LOL
