Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii: What Happens When the Novelty Wears Off?

Thanks. You just helped to make my point because the PS3 can do these things. All you need to do is install an operating system. Which the PS3 openly alows you to do.  And not to mention the fact that you can use a standard PC monitor as well as as keyboard and mouse printer, and external DVD writer.

That's all I need to do? Wow. Piece of cake!

The PS3 already has an operating system installed. You are probably talking about installing Linux on the box and then running Windows emulators on top of that to run Office, Photoshop, etc. Yeah...that's real easy.

A PS3 is nothing like a PC. Its merely as powerful as a PC. But until I can sit at a desk to do my homework, using the included monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Office software, running Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, Word, iTunes and 3 or 4 browser windows all at once, print documents as I work, and not have to turn off the Brewers game in the other room to do it, it can't do what my 3 year-old PC does. Even if it were designed to do all that, its not worth rearranging my whole life for. PS3 is a PC in the same way that a riding lawnmower with a jet engine is a 747.

Yellow Dog's out already? The way i see it, looks like you should buy PC with rewritable BD-drive. It shouldn't be much more expensive than PS3 with similar equipment. I have to say that good thing with PS3 is that, with its HD digital tuner, you can burn from HDTV recorded programs from HDD to BD. Think how many HD movies or TV shows fit to 200GB BD. No wait... Did i mix something?

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

to mancandy. Yeah I'm talking about linux. And yeah it is easy to install on a PS3. So easy, a caveman can do it.

Generally a PC comes with Windows, Office, a monitor and peripherals all included. Generally, I like to use my PC at my desk, because its easier to work that way. Generally, I like to use game consoles at the TV, so I can play with friends or lounge on the couch. And generally, I like to leave game consoles hooked up to the TV, and not lug them back and forth between rooms. A lawnmower with a jet engine is fast, but its neither the best way to mow a lawn nor the best way to drive to work.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

You clearly don't know the market we'd be talking about in a Wii thread. And guess what? This used to be a Wii thread before you arrived.

But you're right on one account: the PS3 is selling great, specially for a $600 device, in the niche market it set out to get. And it truly is a great device: all the high tech, interoperating with off-the-shelf components and all, though I'm still not 100% sure about Blu-ray.

For that market however, it might as well have an engraving saying "handcrafted in China since 2006".

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Why on earth would you want to replace your PC so perfectly suited to your 'PC stuff' by a PS3 ?

Even if i admit some 'techies' will do that just for the pleasure, how can you even imagine the masses will make the same calculation .... ?

Well....I can't argue with that.

That's the thing I think most PS3 fans miss ... Most products people buy are purchased for the primary use they were designed for. People buy iPods because they're an MP3 player, people buy cell-phones to talk on the phone, and people buy videogame consoles to play videogames. After they own it people may use their iPod to watch videos, their cellphone to take pictures, or their videogame console to watch movies but these are not bought for these uses.

What the hell do you need a lawnmower for? Just take a PS3, add some wheels to it, an engine, and some blades and your got your self a BluRay player that mows lawns. Much cheaper. Don't forget to install linux first.

What happened when the novelty of dual screens and a stylus wore out?

A lot of DS games don't even use hte touchscreen much and only some have good uses to the dual screen.

Most of the really good ones use it, and define good, use, because good use to me means does it make the game more acessible and is it fun, and a lot of games fulfill those requirements
