PC = PS3? Since when did the PS3 start running Excel?

So you tell me. How did Sony turn it around with the PS2? The PS2 started out selling slowly. But now within a six year frame, the PS2 has sold over 110 million units. Making it the greatest selling console of all time.

Ah, the PS2 launch fallacy. The PS2 "sold slowly" in the exact same way that the Wii is "selling slowly" right now. IE, a failure to deliver enough units to come within a mile of demand, but still setting sales records.

Check the Japanese numbers. PS2 still has the biggest launch ever in Japan--bigger than Wii and DS. In the US, Wii is outpacing PS2 as the fastest launch ever, while PS3 is tracking even with the 360 and below every other system released this decade.

Slowly, you say. Talk about rewriting history. Lets take a look at Japan: slow starter PS2 vs. fad Wii; the PS3 doing as well as the PS2 did; or maybe, it's more like the Cube after all.

Of course things are going to improve for Sony. Really: they can't but improve when even the 360, with its ridiculous installed base, sells more games in Japan than the PS3!

But, as of right now, reallity sports a very clear Nintendo bias.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

To Ray007. Actually thats equal to the PS3's processing ability. So I'd much rather spend 600 USD for a PS3. Then having to spend 250USD for a gaming console only, and then having to shell out another 600 USD for a decent PC. When I can get both for 600 via PS3.

Well to each his own I suppose :)

But just to let you know, I was talking is $AUD not $USD - in Australia the PS3 retails for around $1000AUD.  I'll getting the HTPC (which is much better suited to task than a PS3) AND a Wii for less than the price of a PS3.

A PS3 is nothing like a PC. Its merely as powerful as a PC. But until I can sit at a desk to do my homework, using the included monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Office software, running Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, Word, iTunes and 3 or 4 browser windows all at once, print documents as I work, and not have to turn off the Brewers game in the other room to do it, it can't do what my 3 year-old PC does. Even if it were designed to do all that, its not worth rearranging my whole life for. PS3 is a PC in the same way that a riding lawnmower with a jet engine is a 747.

What happened when the novelty of dual screens and a stylus wore out?

A lot of DS games don't even use hte touchscreen much and only some have good uses to the dual screen.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

To albionus. And why are we comparing last gen systems to next gen systems? And why are we comparing videogame consoles to the PS3 (which is not just a box that plays videogames). In fact. A PS3 is not videogame console. ITs a computer entertainment system. Which some people till this day does not know what that means. It means that its built to be the center of your living room. Not to be some silly little childs toy that plays nothing but childish games and that I have to stand in front of my TV looking like a total idiot swining a remote.

Kwaad?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I agree the novelty will wear off, just like it wore off for the DS with the duel screen and touch screen elements. The fact is however the DS right now is selling better than ever. The Wii has to get to the next level and become a system of many great games. That's what it's ultimately about.

Considering how many times we've debunked the slow PS2 start myth, he'd have to be a real moron to repeat it.

Thanks. You just helped to make my point because the PS3 can do these things. All you need to do is install an operating system. Which the PS3 openly alows you to do.  And not to mention the fact that you can use a standard PC monitor as well as as keyboard and mouse printer, and external DVD writer.
