Analysts have been wrong an amazingly high percentage of the time lately; the Wii and DS were both supposed to be flops according to most Analysts while the PSP and PS3 were supposed to be remarkably popular.

There are very few things which happen in the world which are unprecidented, if you understand what has happened before you can predict the future to a high level of success. Currently, the PS3 seems to be performing at a level below the Gamecube and N64 and is very similar in market position and sales to the Sega Saturn.
