The dream of playing Steam games anywhere is mostly a reality thanks to Steam Remote Play—but there are loads of kinks you have to deal with depending on the game. A touch screen is a piss poor substitute for an actual keyboard and mouse (or controller), but yesterday's Steam Remote Play update has made playing PC games on your phone way more tolerable for over 100 of the most popular Remote Play games.
In a blog post, Valve explained that some games, like Slay The Spire, work pretty well using a touchscreen, but plenty of others are frustrating to play using the default touchscreen buttons. "So to improve the experience," Valve said, "we put together default touch configurations for over 100 of the most common and desired Remote Play games."

A new storefront is coming to the Epic Games Store

The Epic Games Store saw some significant improvements in September, including the addition of a list view in the library and a playtime counter, so you can see how much time you've sunk into Control. (37 hours here.) Bundles are now officially supported, as seen in the recent Batman trilogies, and patch size improvements mean smaller downloads when games are updated.
It's a good start—the list view is especially welcome—but even bigger things are on the way. Epic announced today that it's working on a new storefront for the Epic Games Store that will support "curated collections" and other features.

Modder ‘FaramH’ has released a new version of his really cool mod for The Witcher 3, HD Tree LOD Billboards. As the title suggests, this mod improves the distant LODs for the game’s trees. The mod increases the resolution, adds shading through new normal maps and perforates (where appropriate) the tree LOD billboards.
As such, the distant trees can now appear more detailed and less like cardboard cutouts. In other words, this mod tries to bring the distant trees more in line with modern releases like Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Nude Dancers mod released for both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2

Modder ‘ExxonValdez’ has released a Nude Dancers mod for both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. As its title suggests, this mod basically adds a nude reskin of the dancers in both games.
Going into more details, this mod for Mass Effect 2 will affect the dancers at Afterlife and the one on Illium. Also included is a separate, optional file. This file will update the giant animated screens in Afterlife (and the UI thumbnail) to feature nude dancers.
On the other hand, the Mass Effect 2 mod adds an original reskin of the Chora’s Den dancers featuring a fully nude version (with collar and pumps required by the model) and a version with thigh-high boots and gloves. New textures have more fidelity than the vanilla “nude” textures, and dancers are more toned, because poledancing is hard work.

This mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim introduces Volumetric Fog/Mist

Modder ‘Robanco’ has released a pretty cool mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. According to the modder, this mod brings large scale distant volumetric mist/fog effects to Skyrim Special Edition. Therefore, the mod adds misty valleys without obscuring peaks or wiping out the sky like standard fog does.
This Volumetric Fog/Mist effect is hand-placed in the world of Skyrim. As such, this opens up some doors that a generic fog implementation does not.

You can now play as Mads Mikkelsen’s character, Cliff, from Death Stranding in Metal Gear Solid 5

While Death Stranding has not been officially announced yet for the PC, PC gamers can now get a taste of it in Metal Gear Solid 5. Modder ‘JinMar’ has released a new mod that allows gamers to play as Cliff from Death Stranding.
In case you weren’t aware of, Cliff is the character portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen in Death Stranding. So yeah, this mod is something that most fans of this actor will appreciate.
The mod comes in two variations; the first one is Mads Mikkelsen without any helmet, while the second one is with a helmet and night vision goggles. This second version is based on an older Death Stranding trailer, so kudos to the modder. It’s also worth noting that the mod uses the bare arms mod from TMWSTW.

Modder ‘DooMFOREVER7z’ has released a new beta version of his Brutal Minecraft total conversion mod for Doom/GZDoom. This TC brings the world, aesthetics, weapons and monsters from Minecraft to Doom. Basically, it transforms Minecraft into a Doom clone, and it looks bloody amazing.
Brutal Minecraft Beta 2.0 supports both single-player and co-op modes, and features more than 25 weapons. This mod also packs 3D environments, objects and enemies from Minecraft. Players can use their arsenal in order to kill zombies in a lot of gory ways.

Borderlands 3 mods include trainer, lvl 50 characters, and one that turns it into Limbo

Borderlands 3 has been out for long enough that a mod scene is starting to emerge. Early mods include the kind of thing you might expect for a Borderlands game—a trainer that lets you modify your stats and drop rate, as well as give yourself infinite health and ammo, as well as save files for various characters at level 50, and an intro-skipper if the tried-and-tested method of renaming the video files doesn't work for you.
What's less expected is the mod—really just a reshade preset—that does away with the UI and gives Borderlands 3 the moody black-and-white vibe of 2010 indie darling Limbo. Suddenly, the looter-shooter looks arty and meaningful. There are no floating damage numbers, but there's also no HUD of any kind.
The other surprising addition to Borderlands 3's nascent collection of available mods is the one that replaces all those propaganda videos with YouTube classic Brodyquest by Neil Cicierega.

The latest Borderlands 3 patch has made vault hunter Zane much more powerful by boosting the damage of his skills by as much as 75%.
Gearbox said Zane's tools added utility, but struggled at higher levels. The update is designed to change that: Zane's Digi-Clone, a digital copy of himself that hangs around for 15 seconds, will now deal 38% more damage, and Zane's drone now deals 50% more damage. Its drone rocket damage has been increased by the same amount, and its Almighty Ordnance Rockets now deal a whopping 75% more damage. All in all, it gives Zane far more firepower.

AMD has released a new driver for its graphics cards. According to the release notes, the AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Driver 19.9.3 offers optimal performance in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Moreover, this driver adds support for Radeon Image Sharpening to the Vega series.
As the red team noted, Image Sharpening is now available on Radeon VII, Radeon RX Vega 64, Radeon RX Vega 56 and Radeon Vega Frontier Edition GPUs. PC gamers can use Image Sharpening with DirectX 12 and Vulkan games.
Furthermore, this new driver resolves some texture corruption issues in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice during later parts of the game. It also addresses a Discord application hang issue on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products when HW acceleration is enabled.

At Unite Tokyo, Unity Technologies showcased Hello World running in real-time in Unity Engine 5. Hello World is a new CGI anime movie and Unity Technologies recreated some of its scenes in the Unity Engine. Not only that, but these scenes were running in real-time.
What’s really amazing here is how close to the CGI anime movie this real-time remake of Hello World actually is. In order to showcase the similarities, Unity Technologies offered a comparison video. And as we can see, the real-time remake looks almost as great as the CGI movie.

It appears that a group of Star Wars fans is currently working on a Star Wars: Jedi Academy multiplayer game in Unreal Engine 4. Do note that this game is still in an early development stage. Still, the team released a new dev build that you can download and play right now. So yeah, while this is a prototype, it’s a really cool project.
All you have to do is join its Discord server, head over at “vertex-news” and download the launcher. Once you’ve downloaded, the launcher will download the latest build to where it is installed.

Resident Evil fans, here is something special for you today. Modder ‘DarknessValtier’ released two new character swap mods for Resident Evil 2 Remake, allowing players to assume the role of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.
What’s even better here is that both of them are fully facial animated. As such their mouths and eyes move accordingly and as you’d expect. Now the downside here is that it’s bit strange when other NPCs refer to them as Leon and Claire. Unfortunately, there is no way to change that so yeah, it can become a bit awkward.

It hasn’t been even a week since Code Vein released and it has already surpassed Dark Souls in terms of all-time peak players. Actually it tripled the players, Dark Souls had 11,248 players, while Code Vein has 33,804 players, at this moment. The remastered version is somewhere in the middle with 24,505 players. Do not forget the remastered was 50% off, for players who already owned the original version.
Impressive yet expected, since Souls like games are pretty popular these days. Of course the other Souls games had a much larger audience, with Dark Souls II having a 79,528 players all-time peek and Dark Souls III at 129,831 players.

Destiny 2 breaks 200,000 peak concurrent users on Steam

Destiny 2 deployed on Steam today and while there were a few Beavers and Weasels spotted roaming around, for the most part it seems to have gone reasonably smoothly. I was able to get in quickly and painlessly (after an hour of "unpacking"), and the usual PC Gamer Destiny stalwarts have been unusually quiet for the last couple of hours. That said, at time of writing, there has been a wave of players getting booted...
Destiny 2 went back online at 10 am PT/1 pm ET today, and the full maintenance period wrapped up a couple hours later. Bungie warned that access might be a little spotty during those hours, but enough players were able to get in to push it to fourth place on the Steam Top 100 list: When noon PT rolled around, a peak of 211,161 concurrent players had been achieved, more than double the daily peak concurrent player count of the fifth-place game, Rainbow Six Siege.
Update: That "reasonably smooth" rollout has hit a bit of a snag. After moving a little past 214,000 peak concurrent users on Steam, Bungie was forced to pull the plug for reasons unknown. We'll be monitoring the situation and will post updates when they become available here.

Bungie is 'restoring services' to Destiny 2, but some issues may persist

There's no word on what exactly the issue is but the studio said previously that it was investigating problems that were preventing players from logging in. Update (8 pm ET, Oct 1): Bungie reported on Twitter that it is "making progress in restoring services to Destiny 1 and Destiny 2," but warned that some players may still experience issues while signing into the game. Further updates will be posted as they become available.
Update 2: (9 pm ET, Oct 1): The emergency maintenance is complete, although there may still be queues for awhile yet.

Two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA, adds a secondary layer of security to your important online accounts by demanding a separate, unique code whenever relevant activities, like a password change, take place. Codes are typically sent via text message or email, although some games use standalone "authenticators," but regardless of the specific method, it ensures that even if someone gains access to your password, they won't be able to do much with it.
It's a hassle sometimes (I get tired of having to use my Steam authenticator whenever I need to log back into my account), but 2FA works, and numerous publishers and developers have been encouraging (or even requiring) that their users enable it. Electronic Arts is now nudging Origin users in that direction with an offer of a free month of Origin Access Basic, the subscription-based service that offers unlimited access to games for $5 per month, to everyone who turns it on before the end of October.
