This Doom 2 mod turns off all the lights
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-doom-2-mod-turns-off-all-the-lights/
Doom 2 is pretty well-lit for a labyrinth full of demons, and after 25 years its power to intimidate has perhaps diminished a little, but there's a solution! Night64K is a mod that turns out all the lights, forcing you navigate the darkness with flares.
Regular Doom 2 in the dark would of course be entirely impossible, so regular enemies have been stripped out and replaced by Shadows, nasty monsters that will invade your personal space and try to tear you to shreds.

https://www.pcgamer.com/bake-n-switch-is-a-four-player-party-game-about-bread-the-munchines-and-an-ancient-curse/
The world of Bake n Switch is an odd one. Generations ago, the First Bakers battled a relentless enemy known as the Scourge by mashing cute little dough creatures together and then shoving them into ovens to bake them into loaves of bread which would be used to summon the eternally munchies-suffering Guardians, who would then fight the Scourge and eat the bread. But there was a dark price to be paid...

Today the studio revealed a little more about what's coming, including the first-ever gameplay trailer and a rundown of basic gameplay.

G2A is really digging itself deeper and deeper...

I like it, that shop really shouldn't have the success it has. Just pure greed, both by their executives, their sellers and their customers.

Don't really get the G2A hate, it's just Ebay but for game keys. I've sold keys on there myself and bought keys and never had a problem. Bad Apples are going to sell stolen keys whether G2A exists or not. There are 100+ key sites on the internet. As long as steam keys exist they will be sold.

Demonizing G2A will accomplish nothing, and I've yet to see someone give a suggestion on how it could improve beyond "G2A is bad, should die." Besides within the last year they've already changed it so you need to verify ID before you can even begin selling, if someone is selling stolen keys they can easily be tracked down and punished.

That's not a reason to pull a blind eye on them. Besides, they often don't sell Steam keys at all, just a link to a steam gift. That's something G2A could find out with a minimum of policing. But how about you look this video:

With just very light policing, they could have found out that most of those keys are fraudulent.

Also, if developers and publishers alike outright tell you to rather download a cracked copy of the game instead of buying the game there, something must be really off with them.

The specs look feasible, though having all of them with hyperthreading is suspicious due to the security problems coming with it on Intel's platforms. Also, i5 buyers will be pissed again if true since the i3 would have 8 threads while the current i5 only has 6...

The most unbelievable part for me are the prices. Intel can't afford to do so due to the production shortages. Unless that's just the nominal price and the real prices will go up right after launch, or that AMD has stolen so much market share that the shortages don't apply anymore. Finally, the i3 to i7 could simply be old, cherry-picked coffee lake CPUs with their hyperthreading enabled, thus only the i9 would actually be really new chips - but that depends also on the iGPU. If that one's new, then the whole chip is.

Yeah the naming of the node is rubbish. - They could take a page out of Samsung's book and name it like: 14nm LPE/14nm LPP/14nm LPC/14nm LPU.

Basically every time Intel revamps 14nm they will make slight adjustments... I.E. 14nm++ has a relaxed poly pitch which results in slightly lower density, but allows for better current characteristics in the range of 20-25%. - And should in theory allow them to hit higher clocks even though their chips would be bigger.

A 10-core chip is nothing impressive though, thanks to what AMD has brought to the market... And it seems like Hyperthreading is back across Intels entire Lineup in order to try and bring multi-threaded performance up.

Shortages should be resolved late this year.

Need to keep in mind of how AMD and Intel lists their TDP's as well... It looks like Intels TDP's in that chart are better than Ryzen on paper... But AMD calculates it's TDP's from it's boost-clock whilst Intel calculates it from it's base clock... So that 65w 10-core processor is likely going to be significantly higher than that.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what Intel can achieve with a further refinement to it's 14nm process... But topping out at 10 cores is a little unimpressive all things considered.

...Plus rumors, salt and all that.

The latest version of Denuvo anti-tamper tech, Denuvo 6.0, has been cracked

For the past couple months, a lot of publishers were able to secure their PC games by using the latest version of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. And while it has taken crackers a while, it appears that this latest version, which is now called Denuvo 6.0, has been cracked.
Earlier yesterday, a specific game cracking group was able to crack the latest version of Total War: Three Kingdoms. Total War: Three Kingdoms was updated one week ago to version 1.1.0 (which could mean that it has the latest version of Denuvo) and… as you may have guessed… the cracked version is based on version 1.1.0.

Fiverr's freelance dev platform sounds liberating but won't solve crunch

Online freelancer platform Fiverr is expanding into game development services, creating a new store where freelance animators, game designers and composers can sell their skills to interested developers. A freelance marketplace isn't normally something that I'd cover, but my interest was piqued when Fiverr cited burnout at big companies as a reason why people in the industry might want to go freelance. I wondered what a company that romanticises graft thought about crunch, one of game development's most pervasive problems.

There are plenty of tools to help game developers create environmental objects, like SpeedTree, which has famously been used to help make the trees in everything from The Witcher 3 to Assassin's Creed Origins. Game designer Robert Yang has just released a new open-source tool that can help developers create ivy and spread it over surfaces without having to do every inch by hand. It's called Hedera, and it's built on code originally written by Thomas Luft in 2006, which "strongly affirms the value of open source dev" as Yang put it on Twitter.

Starcraft: Mass Recall is a fan remake of the first StarCraft in StarCraft 2, version 7.1 available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/starcraft-mass-recall-is-a-fan-remake-of-the-first-starcraft-in-starcraft-2-version-7-1-available-for-download/
Starcraft fans, here is a project you really need to download and play. The team behind Starcraft: Mass Recall has released a brand new version, allowing players to experience the first Starcraft games in the Starcraft 2 Engine.
According to its description, Starcraft: Mass Recall is a project that recreates the classic Starcraft and Brood War gameplay as well as the entire single-player campaigns within the Starcraft 2 engine. This basically means that Starcraft: Mass Recall features 68 maps, 59 from the original Brood War game, 3 that were hidden or deleted on various Starcraft supports, and 6 from the 1998 demo campaign.
What’s really great here is that this mod can be used with any Starcraft 2 version, including the free Starter edition. As such, you won’t have to purchase the game in order to experience this fan remake of these classic strategy games.

I feasted on fishermen and chewed on cab drivers with this GTA 5 shark mod
https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-5-shark-mod/
Maneater, the Shark RPG from Tripwire Interactive, is due out sometime this year. But if you just can't wait another minute to swim around and chomp on innocent people, there's another option! Modder JulioNIB is developing a Maneater script for GTA 5, and while it's still a work in progress (and only currently available to subscribers of his Patreon), it's already some good, gory, silly fun. I took it for a swim this week and discovered what life is like for a very hungry shark in Los Santos. (...) The mod also includes (with permission) the script functions from the Dismemberment Mod, which means after you've chewed on a citizen for a few seconds you'll actually bite them in half, and then be able to snack on their top and lower halves separately. It's gross! It's also funny. And delicious.

It's so hard to keep track of what's coming out on Steam every week, every day, every hour, that our team at PC Gamer likes to follow a pair of Twitter accounts, @microtrailers and @whatsonsteam, that list new games as they're released, along with six second trailers and screenshots. Apparently Valve likes those accounts too, because as part of a set of experimental new Steam features called Steam Labs, it took the idea and ran with it: "Micro Trailers are six-second looping videos designed to quickly inform viewers about titles on Steam with a presentation that's easy to skim. This experiment is a fancier version of the Twitter bot of the same name."
The micro trailers page asks the question "What if you could absorb every game on Steam in just moments?" and shows off a range of trailers in various categories, like roguelikes, visual novels, and "dragons." (Also, based on the 31,000 or so games on Steam, it would actually take about 52 hours to absorb every game on Steam in 6-second bursts).

Steam's new 'Interactive Recommender' uses machine learning, not tags or reviews, to tell you what to play

Valve has unveiled a new experimental feature on Steam called the Interactive Recommender that it hopes will, once the kinks are worked out, give players better, more personalized recommendations about games they might like. Rather than relying on tags, the system is built on a "neural network model" based on your playtime history and "other salient data," and updates its recommendations in real-time through adjustable preferences for game age and "popularity" so you can tune its suggestions on the fly.
"We train the model based on data from many millions of Steam users and many billions of play sessions, giving us robust results that capture the nuances of different play patterns and covers our catalog. The model is parameterized so that we can restrict output to games released within a specified time-window, and can be adjusted to prefer games [with] a higher or lower underlying popularity," Valve explained in a blog post.

One of the new features that the new NAVI GPUs support is a special sharpening filter created by AMD. Now even though the red team has locked this feature for all other GPUs in its drivers, a modder was able to port it to Reshade and allow all NVIDIA and AMD gamers to use it and enhance their games.
In case you aren’t aware of, Image Sharpening can be enabled for DirectX 9, DirectX 12 and Vulkan games on AMD Radeon RX 5700 series graphics via its Control Panel, and provides contrast-adaptive sharpening combined with optional GPU upscaling that helps draw out detail and provide crisp-looking visuals.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan Multiplayer Reveal Trailer

Man of Medan is Supermassive’s new game coming out at the end of August. The game is categorized as interactive drama horror, pretty much like Until Dawn, which was pretty entertaining. I even made it out without losing a soul. Spoiler alert, in these games you die a lot and no, I do not mean Dark Souls dying but rather more like State of Decay dying. Permadeath, I am talking about permadeath.
