Friday news, part two:

PUBG has been banned in Jordan, with Fortnite expected to follow
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-has-been-banned-in-jordan-with-fortnite-expected-to-follow/
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been banned by Jordan's Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, with six other games, including Fortnite, expected to join it soon. Like other instances where the battle royale has been banned, vague concerns about the "negative impact" have been tossed around.

Feast your eyes on the Greedfall release date trailer
https://www.pcgamer.com/feast-your-eyes-on-the-greedfall-release-date-trailer/
I have middling hopes for Spiders' upcoming RPG Greedfall. On one hand, it's built on a conventional but still risky concept—colonization—that could lead into genuinely interesting and morally complex stories that haven't really been told before. But on the other, Spiders is one of the most consistently 6/10 studios in the business, with stuff like Technomancer, Bound by Flame, Mars: War LogsGray Matter bucked the trend, but it's an adventure. Its games aren't bad, generally speaking, but they're "rough," as Fraser put it, and typically "don't live up to their ambitions."

Overwatch's next hero will arrive a bit later than expected
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatchs-next-hero-will-arrive-a-bit-later-than-expected/
In a developer update today, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan shed a bit of light on the game's upcoming content schedule. Specifically, Kaplan said that the next Overwatch hero will be arriving a bit later than expected.

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord's multiplayer class system explained
https://www.pcgamer.com/mount-and-blade-2-bannerlords-multiplayer-class-system-explained/
The Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord multiplayer closed beta finally got underway a couple of weeks ago, and today developer Taleworlds decided to talk a bit about what's going on. A new update posted to Steam digs into the details of the game's multiplayer class system, which enables players to gear up in preset infantry, ranged, or cavalry-based loadouts before spawning.

The secret to Warframe's ship-to-ship space combat is that the ship doesn't actually move
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-secret-to-warframes-ship-to-ship-space-combat-is-that-the-ship-doesnt-actually-move/
Math is hard, but Space Math is even harder. If you can imagine all the complex physics calculations that go into moving a videogame character around a 3D space, think about how much harder it would be if that level was also moving around a 3D space. That's the conundrum Digital Extremes was facing when it first conceived of ship-to-ship space combat almost ten years ago—a problem it finally managed to solve in Warframe's upcoming Empyrean update.

The Bard's Tale 4 Director's Cut is coming in August
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-bards-tale-4-directors-cut-is-coming-in-august/
The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep was one of my favorite games from 2018, and I wrote a glowing review to prove it. In August it will get even better as The Bard's Tale 4 Director's Cut, which was announced in February, will go live.

Ubisoft's putting a stop to Assassin's Creed Odyssey farming quests
https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisofts-putting-a-stop-to-assassins-creed-odyssey-farming-quests/
Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Story Creator mode is a neat editor that lets you design and share quests using some of the same tools employed to build the game. Pretty quickly, players realised they could also use it to farm XP, as well as cash, with minimal effort. Not for much longer, however, as Ubisoft wants to put a stop to it.

G2A proposes a key-blocking tool as a solution to fraud
https://www.pcgamer.com/g2a-proposes-a-key-blocking-tool-as-a-solution-to-fraud/
Developers and publishers have been butting heads with key reseller G2A this month, criticising the company for allegedly facilitating the sale of illegally obtained game keys. G2A's attempts to smooth things over only seemed to incense its critics on Twitter, but it's giving it another shot, proposing a solution that will block keys from sale.

SCUM is going a bit Robin Hood with its impressive archery system
https://www.pcgamer.com/scum-is-going-a-bit-robin-hood-with-its-impressive-archery-system/
SCUM, the multiplayer survival sandbox, takes archery very seriously. Sure, the latest development video describes an arrow as looking like a "big pink dildo", but the level of detail in its archery system honestly seems astounding. It's definitely a lot more complicated than pointing and shooting.

Well, I'm not waiting around for that contest. A friend of mine is currently in Italy and comes to visit next month, so I got him to buy me two of these very cheap 16GB memory packs (it's the same price as only one of them here in Brazil!), and will finally get the CPU (Ryzen 7 2700) and motherboard next month to coincide with his arrival. Not yet 100% sure on the motherboard, but the Gigabyte B450M looks like the best quality for price for how much I'm willing to pay, and it's relatively small too, which I like. If I'm doing something wrong, please tell me.

Well, and if I do win the contest, I suppose I got stuff to sell, then.

Isn't 2666MHz kind of slow for Ryzen? I thought 3200MHz was the sweet spot for both 1000 and 2000 series.

Does "last week" include Sunday 7th when AMD launched its new products or just the last 7 days? (If it's the former then yes, if it's the latter then I don't think so).

Good point. I just skimmed through the review on computerbase. Looks like AMD really went all in with Zen 2. It's not quite enough for me to choose AMD over Intel yet but they're getting dangerously close. The problem is the 3800X is only marginally cheaper than the 9900K but also slower in games. The 3900X is more expensive but still slower in games. And since I currently have a super dedicated gaming PC I won't really profit from more cores.

If Intel continues to sleep AMD might just beat them in every single aspect very soon. Which is also great news for an Intel fan like me :)

GOG Galaxy 2.0 update squashes bugs and lets users hide games in their library
https://www.pcgamer.com/gog-galaxy-20-update-squashes-bugs-and-lets-users-hide-games-in-their-library/
The latest update for GOG's unifying game launcher, Galaxy 2.0, squashes bugs and adds more tutorials to the closed beta. Users can also now hide games from their library, which seems especially important for a client that lists every game on your PC, and even beyond.
GOG also took some time to lay out the known issues it's working to address. Most notably, the client still doesn't have compatibility for Xbox Play Anywhere games. You also can't import games manually, but that's on the way. Some games may also still appear as "Unknown" in your library.

Resident Evil 3 HD Mod is now available for download, upscales FMVs, backgrounds & 3D model textures
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/resident-evil-3-hd-mod-is-now-available-for-download-upscales-fmvs-backgrounds-3d-model-textures/
Resident Evil 3 fans, here is something really special for you today. Mathieu Philippe has shared a HD mod for Resident Evil 3, called Resident Evil 3 – Seamless HD Project. This project upscales the game’s FMVs, backgrounds and 3D model textures, resulting in an unofficial remaster that only PC gamers can enjoy.
Going into more details, this fan HD remaster project for Resident Evil 3 upscales backgrounds with vectorized masks, restores integrated texts, upscales 3D model textures, upscales the FMVs, and upscales the menu elements as well as the HR portraits. The modder has also used custom-made tools to prevent the apparition of seams where the masks are displayed on top of the backgrounds (this was done by recreating the Mask textures from fully processed backgrounds through analyzing and exploiting the game’s data).
>> The mod is based on the Gamecube version of the game, so you'll need Dolphin to run it and an ISO of the game, plus doing a few extra things more that the article explains.

Counter-Strike: Source gets a 2019 graphics overhaul mod, available now for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/counter-strike-source-gets-a-2019-graphics-overhaul-mod-available-to-download/
Modder ‘gEck0_’ has released a graphics overhaul mod for Counter-Strike: Source, called Counter-Strike: Re-Source (2019). Counter-Strike: Re-Source is basically a compilation of countless textures, models, skins, shaders and more that aims to greatly improve the visuals of this 2004 Counter-Strike game.
Counter-Strike: Re-Source (2019) aims to be as close to the original vision as possible and retain its authentic art/visual style. Now obviously this could have been easier with an ESRGAN AI-enhanced mod, however it’s still cool witnessing such a more “traditional” overhaul mod.

The Witcher AI-enhanced HD Texture Pack for characters, monsters and animals available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-witcher-ai-enhanced-hd-texture-pack-for-characters-monsters-and-animals-available-for-download/
Modder ‘hub997’ has released a brand new AI-enhanced HD Texture Pack for the first The Witcher game. This pack upscales all of the textures for characters, monsters and animals in 2K. Furthermore, the modder has also provided a HD Texture Pack for skyboxes that improves the textures of sky, stars, sun and moon.
The modder claimed that he has used the textures and models that are available in the Rise of the White Wolf Enhanced Edition – Return of the White Wolf Extended Edition mod. As such, there might be some visual differences between the vanilla and this modded version.

One modder has been adding convenient HUD removal mods to dozens of games
https://www.pcgamer.com/one-modder-has-been-adding-convenient-hud-removal-mods-to-dozens-of-games/
For everyone that has ever sought to capture the perfect candid screenshot or video clip in a game, a messy HUD can be distracting and ugly. Many games nowadays have settings to disable many or all HUD elements, but it's a cumbersome process to turn them on or off each time you want to snap a pic.
Thankfully, Nexus Mods user TheJanitor has spent the last year creating simple and convenient mods that disable and enable all HUD with a hotkey in dozens of screenshot-worthy games. First pointed out by Reddit user gAto in a now-removed post on r/Games, TheJanitor's mods include HUD toggles for Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Mad Max, Call of Duty: WWII, Hitman: Absolution, Far Cry 5, and a bunch more.

It was scheduled for a 2018 release but got delayed, and its final release date is now set for October 27th.

The upcoming Gears of Wars 5 will feature blood, guts, guns, explosions, guns, ugly aliens, scowling men and women, guns, gunfire, guns, guns with chainsaws, and guns. What it will not have, however, is tobacco products. Anti-smoking organization Truth Initiative approached ELeague about making Gears 5 smoke-free, according to a Variety report, which in turn worked with Microsoft and The Coalition to remove all references to smoking from the game.

Bungie explains the point of Destiny 2's new 'finishing moves'
https://www.pcgamer.com/bungie-explains-the-point-of-destiny-2s-new-finishing-moves/
One of the new things coming to Destiny 2 in the Shadowkeep expansion is finishing moves. Bungie revealed them last month, describing the fight-ending maneuvers as "This awesome flourish where he actually does like, spin in front of him, has two knives, and just hit, hit, pfffft!" Furthermore, "He jumps in the air, pulls back, looks at his fist, and bssssht!"
Okay, so that should give you a general idea of what they are, in an arms-waving, wild-eyed sort of way, but how do they actually work? Bungie went into a little more detail on that aspect of it with Polygon, telling the site that when enemies fall below a certain health level, an indicator will appear to show that they can be finished.

Gibbous is a Lovecraft horror-adventure in the style of a classic Disney film
https://www.pcgamer.com/gibbous-is-a-lovecraft-horror-adventure-in-the-style-of-a-classic-disney-film/
We said last year that we're tired of Lovecraft. Sure, the man told some singularly horrific tales, but there's more to the genre than tentacles, the gaping maw of madness, and virulent racism. We want something different! Gibbous is kind of a compromise in that regard: It's a Cthulhu mythos-inspired tale of terror done in the style of an animated Disney film, complete with a talking cat.

Just a few days ago, a reddit user, asked CD Project Red about the limitations of acting violently towards NPCs (non-player characters) within Night City. CDPR responded by saying pretty much what we already have seen in games like Skyrim. You can basically attack almost anyone, except key characters tied to the story and of course children NPCs.

I really miss the days when RPG devs were creative enough to let you really do as you like - you could kill right about everyone in lot of older RPGs and finish the game.

And Fallout 1/2 even had Childkiller reputation, which gave you -30 to reaction from both good and evil NPCs and you got bounty on your head.

^Nowadays it wouldn't be politically correct, and I belive Cyberpunk 2077 will piss off a lot of people with some of its content, so I understand why they don't want to add more troubles to the list.

It's a shame about the key characters, but The Witcher and this seem to be games with a strong emphasis on the story, and they don't want us to ruin it.
