With all this talk about the wii 2. I'm wondering if they are working on the system right now

they started working on the next system on day one of the realease of the Wii, all console manufacturers start their R&D immedietly after they released their current console.

Probably before the Wii was released in fact... though for at least a year or two after the Wii's release, it will have been heavily on the research side of R&D.

It wouldn´t surprise me if they were doing R&D for 2 or 3 gens forward, the first time I read about project revolution was in the mid 90´s so they were working on this on quite some time.

Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

Old news, but completely in line with Nintendo's previous actions. They've learned from the DS and Wii that pretty pictures aren't enough: for a console to be successful, it has to bring something genuinely new to gaming. The HD consoles failed to do this, and that is why they've failed in the market.

This is not to say that I have any illusions about Nintendo being innovative "for the good of gaming." They innovate because after the N64 and Gamecube disasters, they don't dare not innovate: it's evolve-or-die from here on out, and they know it. But then, frankly that's how I like my game makers: scared to death of not moving forward.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

ofcourse HD won't be the only update..

no console received a minor update like that

Iwata's answer, that nobody listened to.

Still applies.

Wii 2 will be revolutionary not evolutionary

the wii 2 will be revolutionary. it will be in sd.

it will still handidly outsell the superhd consoles, and cause graphics whores the world over to commit suicide.

because "HD" will be the "standard" by then, hence Wii2 will be standard definition, or "SD"

The Wii's successor will be the reincarnation of the SNES. In other words it will be a "hardcore" gamer's dream. This is just my guess but it could actually be Nintendo's dream of creating a console that everyone truly will love, Casual/New/Core.

Wii 4k, beyond HD.

If it was more powerful than the XBOX 720 and PS4, then that would be a great turnaround for Nintendo right there.

I'd imagine that they would make it graphically in line with the other consoles so multi-platform games would release on all 3 to cater to the hardcore, while still appealing to casuals with motion controls etc. Everyone wins
