Canada and Russia ARE the gold candidates.

Or rather were.  Now it's still Canada believe it or not.  One only needs to look at the credentials gulf between the two squads.

And the credential gulf between Swiss and Canada ? or Russia Slovakia.

What went wrong there.

The Swiss played a "total defensive game" which aims just for a draw.  It worked on Canada... and would of worked on the US had the US first goal not been a lucky one which came after a lot of chaos breaking the US way.

When Hockey and Soccer teams decide to give up on scoring, it's more luck than skill that ends up breaking the deadlock.

The firepower of Russia and Canada should smash the likes of Swiss and Slovakia regardless of how stubbornly defensive they play.

Get over the fact the Canadians are just not that good, big nhl names wont win you Gold. Russia just drove that home.

Premier league.  There was a REALLY good example of it earlier this year with Manchester United.  The announcers were practically breaking out and cursing the other team for playing total defense until one play broke Manchesters way and they scored 3 goals in like the last 2 minutes.

Rarely do teams play it because of how it's treated... however it's VERY effective at draws or making the games close to draws.  You've pretty much given up your chance to win the game, but you raise your chances to draw against a good team a LOT.

Which was the Swiss strategy.  Total defense and hoping to win the shootout.

Shit liek that hardly happens, minows are usualy whooped by the big teams.

Well Swiss strategy failed to work on the superior team like USA, hehehe.

It rarely happens because in soccer it's seen as ungentlemenly... or something the announcers went CRAZY when they did do it... however when you do play vs a team who plays like that it has little to do with skill and more so luck in a few moments you need to break your way.

Canada v. USA for women's hockey gold tonight

gonna be good

2 gold medals in Hockey and 2 gold medals in Curling for Canada! Soon!

And once again we are in semi finals in hockey! =P

The last time Canada beat Russia in an Olympic men's hockey match: 1960.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.
