When Hockey and Soccer teams decide to give up on scoring, it's more luck than skill that ends up breaking the deadlock.

NO its when some one faks up thast when they score.

And rarely do teams just decide to give up on scoring, wtf type of bs football do you watch ?

Premier league.  There was a REALLY good example of it earlier this year with Manchester United.  The announcers were practically breaking out and cursing the other team for playing total defense until one play broke Manchesters way and they scored 3 goals in like the last 2 minutes.

Rarely do teams play it because of how it's treated... however it's VERY effective at draws or making the games close to draws.  You've pretty much given up your chance to win the game, but you raise your chances to draw against a good team a LOT.

Which was the Swiss strategy.  Total defense and hoping to win the shootout.

Shit liek that hardly happens, minows are usualy whooped by the big teams.

Well Swiss strategy failed to work on the superior team like USA, hehehe.
