Forums - Gaming - Who else sees the positives in casual gaming?

Think about it, if people like Jack Thompson go on and on running their mouths about how video games cause or promote crime then there are bound to be outcries to ban video games. So, from a video game companies prospective, they have to try and look better to people otherwise they're doomed to get less revenue, and worse, to look like monsters by ignorant parents.

So marketing that video games have family entertainment (and indeed, there are many that do) would decrease the hostility and resentment seen on news stations. This way more money and they appear to be on the more moral ground of the argument.

So you see, casual gaming is a good thing and it's being given an emphasis in video game commercials not only to make more money but to give a more positive, sensible, and truthful view on video games in general.

Yeah, it's annoying to have casual stuff made 10 times more than the good old difficult games but companies need to appeal to a broader audience now otherwise legal policies on video games will go straight to resembling Australia's ridiculous policies and if you know anything about Australia's laws on video games, you certainly don't want that.

The thing I like about "casual" (I hate calling it like that) gaming is that it helps me spend some more quality time with my family and friends.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

This. exactly this.

Even so, many of the games that are called casual as some sort of insult, I play a lot more by myself than I do with my family because they are awesome games.

Even Wii Play is probably 50:50 with On my own time and With family/friends time.

That's a weak argument since video games are in no way threatened by the acts of neither Jack Thompson or any other politicians.

So called 'casual' games bring mainstream acceptance to the market and allows developers to make a wider variety of games. Also means there's a lot more possibilities for profit. This means more types of games for everyone, more room for more developers of all sizes and kinds in the industry and that's good for everyone.

Yaknow i was just thinking this over as i saw the thread title and was thinking that in actuality "casual" games COULD be helping the "hardcore" games industry.

hear me out

If casual games appeal more the a broader audience and therefore sell more creating more disposable revenue it could be that these same companies can use this more bountiful revenue for more risky ventures into new ips that appeal to the "hardcore" crowd.

just food for thought i have no proof as i dont have access to companies budgets but it makes sense to me
