Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft to cut Xbox360 price when Wand arrives, says Patcher

Mr Puggsly said:
A price drop in 2010 isn't much of a surprise. It hasn't had one since 2008. And it was probably being sold at a profit then as well.

Despite what you believe, and what sales indicated, the 360 had a price cut last year about 2 weeks before the PS3.

Excuse my point if this didn't apply to US, but im pretty sure it dropped everywhere.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The $200 Arcade didn't change and the over priced Elite became the $300 unit. In some regions the price even went up on the Arcade unit. So I hardly consider that adjustment a price drop.

I think they'll cut the price for the Natal bundle. So it'd be 299 for 360 with Natal and not 349. Their trying to attract casuals remember. They need a low price for impulse buys.

If they price cut and sell Natal as a stand alone that would be a better option rather then just bundling all systems with Natal. It would hurt adoption rate but aren't they going to cost $80 individually? A $50 price cut across the board would be more appealing for most people and help them further second place with a $150 arcade. It's not $100 "WTF you don't own one?" price point but would be getting closer and closer :P

not to mention the supply constraints that could come with Natal as well.

I think the price cut this year will be greater then anyone can imagine. I don't really see them lowering prices until September when Halo Reach releases. That being said there are rumors that that the elite may be getting another HDD upgrade soon to 250GB.

The biggest question is how many SKU's will MS employ when Natal launches. History has shown that they are happy running 3 SKU's and occassionally 4 if you count the limited edition releases (Halo 3, RE 5, MW2, etc...).

Natal should retail as a standalone at approximately $80 - $90 (the standard has been set for add-ons from both Guitar Hero and Wii Fit)

Arcade $129

Elite (250GB HDD) $229 (they have to assume that Sony shaves at least $50 off this year)

I am almost certain they will do some sort of Halo Reach super bundle and

they probably will do a Super Elite w/ Natal.

Besides at the Natal date, it would also be a good time to schedule a price cut earlier rather than later, that is if MS doesn't like the 75K weekly sales gap that the 360 has compared to the PS3. I just think that it would be a less than ideal way for MS to have a cut, at the wand's inception.

Why would MS want to admit that the wand is scaring them by cutting price when it comes out? Why not within a few months or just at natal's inception?

They gonna lower the price in 2-3 months i think. This should shift focus to the 360 again. And then later when natal comes, it should shift focus to 360 again (if its the success M$ seems to believe its gonna be).

It didn't drop price, they just removed the pro and replaced it with the elite. So you got get an elite for the same price as a pro costed before.

Microsoft is the shit, They will cut prices some fucking time cause it is inevitable. My prediction is right because shit I love my 360 and I am educaated. Pachter dont know shit cause he looks like dweeb. So fuck pachter my highschool diploma and love of videogames make me a goddanm expert on the subject.

If you get more for the dollar its technically a price cut isn't it? Nice to see people can delude themselves though.
