Chrono Trigger was a revolutionary RPG while FFVII was merely a heavily advertised game. There really is no contest -- Chrono Trigger.

Not only was FFVII advertised heavily, it was an RPG for casuals.  What I mean by this is how it was made accessable to new players to draw them in.  This is why many people who say they are FF fans today really started at FFVII.

I'm going back to the main point, Cross is a continuation of the timeline, and it is related, because:

SPOILERS FOR CHRONO CROSS

The fact that Cross has Chrono, Marle, Lucca (Both in "spirit" and she's the one who raised Kidd ), Schala (She's the one inside the time devourer) and Lavos, the same pepole, doesn't mean that it is related?

Wether you call it a sequel or not is just semantics, I call it a sequel for the same reason the MGS3 is considered a prequel for MGS1 and 2, and for the same reason that MGS2 is considered a sequel for MGS1, for the same reason That SMB3 is considered a sequel for one, etc.

Are you reading what I am saying? You can have the SAME characters in another dimension. You (as a person) can appear in another dimension with a different life, this is the concept of parallel dimension but still, it's not the same story. That's why Cross is a side-story and not a sequel.

I gave you proof showing the developers admiting that it's a side-story. I don't know why you are ignoring it.

Okay, it isn't a sequel, but it is related, and there's no proof that it is either in the original dimension or a parallal dimension, can we agree on that?

If it has the same characters in it, but not relating to the story of the previous game, it would have to be an alternate dimension type story.  There is no other way for it to make sense.

It is related to the story, you need to play Trigger to fully understand Cross' story.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Senlis said what needs to be said. Cross has the same characters, but not the same storyline, so it's another dimension.

Isn't the better comparison FFVI vs. Chrono Trigger. Anyway, with both Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger, SquareSoft managed to put together a AAA team (for a lack of a better term) to make the game. I don't think they ever managed to put together a team that good again.

If you were to make a match up between FFVI and Chrono Trigger, you would have to throw in Dragon Quest VI as well, considering it is the height of its respective series on the SNES, although, most people haven't played it, which makes the comparison fairly null.  My point is, you can't really say FFVI vs. Chrono Trigger is a more appropriate comparison than FFVII, as both comparisons don't really mean much.

I'm saying that FFVII vs. Chrono Trigger comparisons are difficult, since the abilities of the PS1 gives FFVII a significant edge when it comes to storytelling, music, etc.  I'm not saying FFVII is a better designed game.

You can say FFVII had the advantage in cinematics, but if it had any advantages in storytelling (this is arguable) they weren't due to the Playstation tech or even FMVs.

I believe that FMVs, higher quality audio, and 3D environment definately helps.  Keep in mind that a video game is supposed to be an interactive medium, not a book.  Therefore, better sound and graphics do help.

Once again, not saying FFVII is a better game.

I just found out more about how chrono cross ruimed everyone in chrono trigger lifes.....

I'd just completed Final Fantasy VII again recently (I played it quite a bit as a kid, but not in years since) and I thought the game was great. I thought it had some strong characters, a good villain, an amazing soundtrack, great atmosphere and a fun world to explore, had a serviceable/good story and, at the time, had a great cinematic feel (if you care for it).

Chrono Trigger on the other hand, is timeless. Not just great, but amazing. I think it edges out (and in some cases, completely blows away) FFVII in nearly every aspect I mentioned before. Everything, from its soundtrack, replayability, gameplay, and so on was so fun, and innovative for its time.

Gotta go with Chrono Trigger here.
