Since you loved Chrono Trigger's music so much, why don't you take a look at this thread

Mitsuda needs your support.

Sorry, but from what I'm familiar with, I'd have to go with Uematsu.

@ pearljammer

Is that so. Well, have you ever played Xenogears?

I believe that FMVs, higher quality audio, and 3D environment definately helps.  Keep in mind that a video game is supposed to be an interactive medium, not a book.  Therefore, better sound and graphics do help.

Once again, not saying FFVII is a better game.

The problem is, FFVII didn't have better sound or graphics. More pixels and higher quality audio only give you more options, it doesn't necessarily make things better. Most people I know always thought the late 2D games looked much better than early 3D like FF7. Older game soundtracks seem to be loved just as much (or more) as current games, despite the gap in audio quality.

As for being an interactive medium, that works against FF7 (or any FMV's). There is much more time spent watching the screen rather than playing, compared to the older 2D RPG's.

@morenoingrato: lol, don't bother looking at the story for Chrono Cross. It's one of my biggest gripes with the game, they should have left CT the hell alone.

I meant better sound and graphics at the hardware level.  The sound had better quality, and the extra horsepower gave the possibility of better graphics.

I agree with you that great 2D graphics beats crappy 3D graphics.  FF did not utilize the interactive medium well when they went to FMV, though they did have the tools to make their stories better with the better audio and graphics.

Basically what I am saying is that they are two different systems which muddies the water when it comes to comparisons.

I'm just downloaded a ps1 emulator with chrono cross.... the battle sistem is like every rpg, good but not as perfect as trigger, it just isn't trigger, it's a poor sequel but a good game

actually, chrono trigger doesn't need a 2, it would ruin it.... (only needs a 3d remake )

FFVII all the way... best story ever with crisis core and advent children complete to top it all :)

You know what's fun about this comparison?

Chrono Trigger originally was going to be Final Fantasy 7.

I'll go with Chrono though... I think it was the better game all around.

It's fun to think what the future final fantasies would of been like based off of a Chrono Trigger template rather then a FF7 template.

^^ lol, really?
I didn't know that...
