Its 720p native (which imo is better than 1080i) which can be up-scaled by the ps3 to 1080i........this box is complete BS though as the ps3 should be able to up-res up to 1080p
|
Nope, a lot of PS3 games can't do 1080p or even 1080i.
|
Almost every game this gen can be up-ressed to 1080p this gen (at least on the 360 and it should be no different on the ps3)
|
That's the thing, a lot of PS3 games can't be upscaled to 1080p, or even 1080i. The XBox360 can (I think there might be a couple exceptions).
A quick check of my game library shows that Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, Lost Planet, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Valkyria Chronicles, InFamous, Resident Evil 5, Demon's Souls and Resistance: Fall of Man do not support 1080i or 1080p.

Killzone 2, Gran Turismo Pro, Lair,Full auto 2,Ridge Racer, NBA, wipe out, and all psn games either upscale to 1080i or are native 1080p. Check your information again, PS3 has more 1080p games than any other console (I believe that 360 only has two native games and a ton that are upscaled).

And what does any of that have to do with what we were talking about? jesus kung fu magic thinks that this information could be false because he thinks that the PS3 can upscale all games to 1080i/p like the XBox360 can. But the PS3 can't upscale a lot of games to 1080i or 1080p. It has nothing to do with how many games are native 1080p on the PS3. It has nothing to do with how many of those games can support 1080i or 1080p upscaling. The fact of the matter is that almost every game on the XBox360 can be upscaled to 1080i or 1080p. On the PS3, I'd guess that around half the games support 1080i or 1080p.
It was a common complaint when the PS3 first came out. See, back before LCD and Plasma TVs became common place, most HDTVs were CRT or projection CRT. And a lot of those TVs had a horizontal resolution of 540 (like my TV). Interlaced, it would allow you to display 1080i, and was therefore a High Definition TV. The problem is that a lot of them didn't come with scalars that would accept a 720p source (luckily my TV does accept a 720p source). So if you tried playing, for example, Resistance: Fall of Man, you would have to play it in 480p. You could not play in 720p because your TV didn't accept 720p sources, and you couldn't play in 1080i because the PS3 couldn't upscale the game to 1080i.
Here's an experiment that you can try (get parental guidance if this is too hard for you to follow). Go to your PS3 display settings and turn off 720p support. Then try playing any of the games I mentioned. They will all be 480p.
