Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Metroid Other M be the Metroid to sell to mainstream gamers?

It may seem that Nintendo is certainly trying to make MOM approachable in at least the Japanese market. By using tradition anime-esque art style and hiring the hand of a well known Japanese developer to help make the game, i think its reasonable for one to assume that Nintendo is trying to make Metroid a sellable franchise in Japan.

But what about the rest of the world? MP3 certainly eased the difficulty and added optional hints (more so than past Prime games), and with MOM focus on story and cinematics, the game could be sold to the mainstream western market.

P.S. By mainstream i dont mean "casual". Well what i am thinking about is the mainstream GAMER, not the mainstream audience. Mario, Halo, GTA will be remembered by those that arent even gamers. Those franchises are beyond gamers, and are part of the popular culture now. Games like Gears, God of War, Assassins Creed, and, to a lesser extent, Zelda are all popular GAMER games, franchises well known to your average gamer, but not so to your average person.

The Metroid series has never sold to the mainstream gamer, and im wondering if the newfound focus on cinematics and story will make it more appealing to that market.

im hoping other m is more popular then the prime series, because if it is, we can guarantee more of these 3rd person action metroid games from team ninja

We dont even know if thats a good thing yet.

If this games succeeds I still want a First Person Adventure Metroid.

please

I agree with Bamboleo. Even if MOM turns out good and sells well I still would like to see another entry with Metroid Prime style and gameplay.

I agree too. FPA should live on.

But, yeah, I expect this to sell (maybe surpass) MP1 levels, since it's yet another renovation in the series.

Possibly, if they're trying to really pitch it to the core gamer, by storying it up.

Not entirely pleased on that front, but whatever, as long as the atmosphere stays the same overall.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The 2d metroid games rule. If they are able to make it more mainstream I say go for it. I don't mind seeing cutscenes if it means more Metroid titles. I think it will sell more than prime. Look at Nsmbwii vs galaxy. that is what i expect from it. 50% increase in sales from prime

Been playing Metroid since the original came out and only one of them has let me down. Hunters.

Team Ninja is working with the original team that made the original games so Metroid other M has my full trust it will turn out great.
It's the only Nintendo franchise I will buy day 1 this year. I am just not that excited about Zelda or mario anymore.

I like how the series is once again changing it's approach,it worked for prime and I bet once again it will work for other M.

They certainly have some issues with Metroid sales. The most obvious idea is to turn Metroid to some kind of a multiplayer shooter (quite cynical idea, isn't it? ^_^). But that's pretty competitive market, look how Sony is trying hard with Halo/GeoW-killers, and Resistance is the best they can do (and it sold what it sold mainly due to the fact it being a launch title). So botomline, Metroid should be what it is regardless of sales.
