PS: It's not just because of the parts, it's partly due to the global economy, which got a lot better along with the christmas season.

The 1 billion dollar profit is true but it's operating profit, not net profit if i remember correctly. We already had one thread where someone posted this Nikkea info and it was clearly stated as OPERATING profit.

This means that real profit is of several magnitudes lower or in worst cases, it may still be a loss. Until we get Sonys' financial report we can all speculate but here's food for thought:

The wii sold a huuuuuge lot more software and hardware than Sony did in the same timeframe and (twice as much i think hw and several times more sw) yet it did not make several billions in profit as would logic indicate. Even if we take into account that the PS3 is 100$ more expensive, the difference in untis sold would still make Nintendo a whole lot more money.

Conclusion: This is not NET but OPERATING profit.
