Forums - Gaming - more people waiting on DMC4 on ps3 than on xbox 360

By the time DMC4 releases ps3 should have cought up significantly to the 360's install base.

About 360 around 16million

And ps3 around 9 million by february
(if nothing serious happens (huge drop, or huge rise) :D)

I think In the U.S the xbox will outsell the ps3 version, but in japan it should be a HUGE differnce. And in the PAL I think the ps3 may have taken the 360 out by that ime in the PAL regions.

DMC 4 is only 4 months away. How is the ps3 going to catch up significantly? The gap is 7.4 million worldwide and it's going to grow by the time christmas is over. 360 is up by 2 million in PAL, PS3 is going to pass that by February? You should closely examine the numbers if you haven't already before you post these things.

You say the 360 will be 16 mill and the PS3 at 9, how is that ANY different than now? That's still a 7 mill gap right? Where would the significant catching up come in? A quick look at the Japan sales for DMC 3 shows it did 350k and DMC 2 did 550k. DMC 4 on ps3 will most likely do around 350-400k lifetime and the 360 version will do 80-100k lifetime, I'm not sure if you've even thought of looking up facts to base your predictions on like me.

I'm going to make a few easy predictions that should come true, but we'll see who ends up being right in a half year (I'll try to remember this thread).

1. PAL 360 version will sell more as it has a 2 million larger install base.

2. US 360 version will outsell it by far more than the Japanese PS3 version outsells 360 there.

3. Just like the last 2 DMC's the Japanese sales of it on PS3 will finish at about 350-400k which won't be much more than the 360's 80-100k.

This is based off facts and mostly common sense. Most of your assumptions border on the completely ridiculous.

The ps3 is catching the 360 in PAL, and will continue to do so. That larger install base should shrink to less than 500k by the time DMC4 comes out.

TGS visitors seem very smart - why wait in a line with 6-8 people when I can wait in a line with 60-80 to play the exact same game?

It's Consumber Behavior at work.

For example.  When Mcdonalds first moved to Russia they went all out and build one of the biggest Mcdonalds they could, with 12 registers so that everyone could get Mcdonalds quick.

No one came.  They were shocked.. their food tested well, and it sells everywhere.  They hired a consumer psychologist to see why Mcdonalds hamburgers in Russia wern't selling well.

What they found out was shocking, well to Americans.  As it turns out... almost nobody went to the Mcdonalds because the lines were always small... and if anything were really good their would be lines for it.

This mentality was built up, because back when Russia was the USSR you had lines for everything, many times you couldn't tell how good or important what you were in line for was unless you checked the size of the line.

So, the Mcdonalds people closed down 10 of the 12 registers... and suddenly buisness started booming.

As for Japan though... it might just be that they want to see how it plays with the PS3 controller?  Really I just wanted an excuse to tell that story.  I love that story.

Alright so the PS3 is going to close 1.6 million to get within 500k of 360 in 4 months. That means the PS3 will outsell it monthly by 400k. Dude what are you on? On what planet is it going to sell 400k a month MORE for the next 4 months? Have you even looked at current sales?

I would have thought these idiots would have realised that it's the exact same game over at the 360 booth and there's no reason why they should be waiting for an hour to play the PS3 version when they can just go to the Xbox side and play the same damn game after a five minute wait.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Hm... Im inclined to think that the 360 might not do well in Japan now.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'm afraid that anyone who stands in a queue for more than 5 minutes waiting to bu a game on any system is a very sad, lonely individual indeed.

It also applies to America, just think about amusement park rides instead of food.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I can't blame them. I wouldn't want to play a devil may cry game on anything other than a sony controller. the x360 one is fine but not for a game like devil may cry.

How so? The controllers are more or less the same in terms of their buttons - four face buttons, two analog sticks, a D-pad, start, and four triggers. I'd even go so far as to say that the 360 controller is more ergonomically designed, especially in terms of its analog stick placement.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
