...and you expect some people to pay for your numbers?

where did you see that?

http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=98413&page=1

From ioi:

3.0 we are planning 3 levels of access for data:

  • Free where you can see top 20 charts each week (top 50 rankings), top 10 per console (top 30 rankings), hardware, top 10 preorders (top 30 rankings), new features like milesones, weekly records. Will be enough to have an overview and to discuss trends.
  • Standard membership (~$7.99 per month) where you can see top 200 per week, top 50 per console, top 50 per publisher, top 100 preorders, extra comparison tools, maybe top level download charts, maybe no ads.
  • Premium membership (for industry) where you can see all data as well as some fancy tools for analysing revenues, year on year data, anticipation metrics plus much more.

So you won't HAVE to pay to view data but if you do subscribe it gives you access to more data. Unfortunately, the data-collection side to VGChartz has got to a point now where it is costing more to run than it is generating in ad revenue, therefore we need to move to a new costing model to continue to grow and improve the service. The data certainly won't be going anywhere but you'll only be able to see top-level data for free with the new site. It's more a case of adding new stuff and charging to use it than charging for what is already there.

8 bux per months? That's double what I pay for live, lol.

360 being 5.8m ahead of PS3 might not jive with the shipment numbers. As of Sep 30 360 was 6.5 m ahead. We know MS shipped 5.2 the Dec end quarter. If Sony as expected ships ~7 when their numbers come out, the 360's cumulative shipped lead will be 4.7m.

It's hard to justify a 5.8 sell through lead with a 4.7 shipped lead imo. In fact, if anything conventional wisdom might be that PS3 has less in the channel than 360, given there seemed to be some 120GB SKU shortages in the states recently.

Of course, guesstimating channel stock is dangerous, for all we honestly know 360 stock might be much more depleted worldwide than PS3.

If all this comes to pass, then there will have to be some light PS3 shipments in the next couple quarters to alleviate a backlog to somewhat vindicate Chartz sell through numbers.

All that assumes Sony ends up shipping 7m PS3's. If they end up shipping closer to 6m when the numbers come out, it's not a problem.

Wow, what a meltdown! Been ages since I saw anything like this

Just looked up one stat, based on a suspicion... remember the week where the PS3 sold more than 1m units?

...no longer, sorry PS3 fans.

That one was adjusted down very long ago, and probably had very little to do with Europe sales.

There is something strange here.

November 2009 , Microsoft announce 10 Millions XBox360 In EMEA ( Europe, Middle East , Africa ) and recently they announce 5 Million Xbox360 sold between October and December IN THE WORLD.

So it's impossible for the XBox360 to be at 14 millions in Europe. That doesn't make sense.

Sorry for my bad english.... i'm French.

That's a very good question which seems to be ignored by people so far.

But Xbox 360 isn't at 14 million in Europe, that number is for the whole of Others.

exactly...Europe, Middle East and Africa

Which means you're still missing large parts of Asia as well as Australia and New Zealand. Others includes those areas as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought we didn't even track mainland Asia here. I'm pretty sure we don't track software there, for example both Demon's Souls and FFXIII don't have others sales.

I remember when ppl were saying Wii would be at 60% market share by now!

Wow did that ever end up being wrong.

Still others predicted itwould never reach 50%. We'll see.

Those who predicted it wouldn't reach 50% got SERIOUSLEY lucky so far is all I can say.

Luck has nothing to do with it, the market simply hasn't allowed it yet. I was one of those people and I still believe it, if only for the reason that its not there now after all this time and we're headed into a faze of the generation where all consoles are typically headed downwards. There has been a whole lot of overestimation and underestimation this gen (I'm just as guilty as everyone else), I don't think any generation has been this unpredictable. Especially Japan, that market has been like a bungie jump!

First, PS3 fans did not claim PS3 sold 1 million on that week, the site did. Second, it was adjusted down weeks ago.

I really don't know how every freaking year we get these huge dajustments, yet this has turned into PS3 fans VS Vgchartz.

I don't have an issue with the adjustments at all, but how it was done. So what happens now if Sony reports they shipped over 34 million consoles so far? Why do we stand firm by our numbers when it doesnt match NPD, but somehow changes stuff when Nintendo estimates numbers. Frankly, the smartest thing would have been to wait until all three companies have release their shipping info.
