Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Hack Released

For those who are asking what this does:

For now, this hack does nothing. But it can be used to open the door to everything.

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

Forgive me for my cynicism but I think I think Piracy will be the be all of it. sure he gets boasting rights but if this leads anywhere, in a few months the lagger ons and piraters won't care who created it but just use it for what "it isn't about."

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Jeez, now I wonder if I should ever update my PS3.

Also guys while piracy would be a definite outcome I am curious to see what homebrew can come of it.

Maybe some custom firmware? O_o

Mathieulh commented that the hack was the real deal a few days ago and hopefully DA isn't far behind.

Anyways, enough about this. Now I just wait and play PS3 games in the meantime.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I hope sony does the same thing that MS has done about it, prohibit hackers from online

With the level of access he allready gained if someone bothers to program an app that will be almost impossible to do, luckily for Sony he said he wont be going in that direction.

This level of hack has more in common with how Wii softmod works then how the 360 hacks works.

Not a major issue right now to be honest, since going forward no one can purchase consoles that are capable of utilising the hack. But I wonder if Sony will disable the OtherOS feature in phat PS3's to be completely sure that it gains zero traction.

There is no legal way Sony can simply delete Linux from previously sold PS3s. They'd get their pants sued off if they tried; after all lots of people/institutions are using PS3s for work/research or have private data stored in their linux partition.

Its more like the piracy part of this will be more visible for the common man as the rest doesnt interest most people.

Don't worry, they can't legally do that.

Says it all really, he's getting nowhere.
