A touch of exaggeration so?

"Tsunoda said that such detection was possible, though the sensitivity would be different at different distances. He thought my fingers idea was do-able." is not quite "it can track the exact movements of your finger".

See, for exact tracking each finger would have at least three but probably four points. So that's 30-40 joints, and Natal only tracks 48 points in total. 30 points for fingers and only 18 for the rest of the body? I'm sure it does finger tracking, but I really doubt you're going to be able to use small movements to pretend to pull a trigger, push a button and the like.

Well why would it track each finger if it won't track the movment? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

It'll probably track one or two points on each finger, but a finger is small, movements done with it are subtle and quick. It would have much greater potential for error than tracking larger body parts that have broader movements. The fact that Natal operates at 30Hz is not a problem for tracking arms etc., but it could easily be an issue for tracking fingers exactly.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Everytime i see some of the expectations and excitement Project Natal generates, i am reminded of Calvins excitement for the Beanie-Hat.*

I guess only time will tell if it actually delivers what it promises.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

My interpretation of this would be that if you further away from Natal it would track your whole body, but if you go closer, for certain types of games, it will be able to track your Hands and Fingers, but not both at the same time.

Considering the Natal can track the sketetal mappings of a room full of people, I think it can handle sports games.

Just weird you can't admit the Natal sounds promising.

Considering none of us have seen Natal tracking the skeletal mappings of a room full of people, I'm wondering how well it works.

I never said the idea is not promising. Just weird that I can't reserve my judgement until I see it and you have to force your opinion on me.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Correct.  The closer to the camera, the more subtle Natal can get.  In fact, Tsunoda stated that you could change the bandwidth of the camera to allow for higher resolution for either the IR or RGB sensors.  So if developers are not using the RGB feed, they can increase the quality of the IR feed.  Also, because the software doing the calculations now lies on the 360 itself, developers can forego the MS solution and come up with their own if they so choose.  So instead of them detecting the entire skeleton, they could instead, focus on the hands.  If MS was smart they would release an SDK for training the neural network however the developer feels like.  Then the game discs could contain the specific training that that specific game requires.

You haven't really reserved your judgement, more so you've been cynical about what its capable of.

If you were reserving your judgement, you probably wouldn't have said anything.

I guess we will have to wait and see about the finger-tracking.  I was under the impression that it could not, although it sounds like it may be able to now.

Let's not forget that analysis made the judgement that Nintendo that the Wii would fail and Nintendo would be leaving the industry.

This assumption was based around the idea all previous generation success was about pushing hardware and that PS3 would come out on top because of this.

Now the these people are saying MS will succeed with Natal because they saw that Wii was a success.

It's become extremely obvious that analysis people do not analyse anything. Nothing. They just copy and paste the picture of success never ever realizing what made the product successful in the first place.

Analyst these days are a joke.

are you not doing that very thing you say they are?  Ass-u-me

If its affordable, I don't see how it can fail.

If it doesn't offer any apps people want, or actually do motion control well, then why would it succeed?

Well Wiiplay and Wiisports aren't great games, people just enjoy waggling those remotes.

With that same token, people will enjoy Natal games even if they suck.

lol at the viral marketer, you're being too obvious, go away
