Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that sales of the PlayStation 3 have eclipsed three million units in the United Kingdom. Speaking to MCV, an SCEE spokesperson noted that the company is "delighted" by the news. Pointing to a strong lineup of software, including God of War III and Heavy Rain -- both rumored to be receiving PS3 bundles in Europe -- as well as the upcoming PS3 motion controller, the rep added that the three million milestone is "a great way to start the year."

So, once again, the price cut seems like it was probably a pretty good idea. Assuming Sony can keep up the momentum and deliver on a few promises, 2010 just might be a banner year for the PlayStation 3.

The PS3 has now passed the 3m sales barrier in the UK, SCEE has officially confirmed.

“We are delighted to have passed the 3m milestone with PS3,” an SCE UK spokesperson told MCV.

“With the incredibly strong line up that we have going forward – Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles and God of War III in the first quarter alone, then Gran Turismo 5, Modnation Racers, Motion control, and a few surprises for the new fiscal year, this is a great way to start the New Year.”

Sony recently reported that it sold 3.8m PS3 consoles around the world in the closing weeks of 2009.

Industry figureheads around the world have been keen to praise the PS3’s global performance in recent times, with NPD describing its North American performance as “a turning point” and ELSPA boss Mike Rawlinson calling it 2009’s “star console”.

Teh C3LL is very powerful, it can transcend time and space and achieve a milestone twice. Quite a huge achievement.

This is a good start for the year though, hopefully Sony keeps up the pace.

I think what is being overlooked in this thread at least is the fact that VGC UK PS3 sales for the UK is pretty much spot on. Well done VGC, again.

Ahhh kowenicki always likes to rain on a PS3 parade, you are as reliable as an atomic clock. BTW seems to me that the PS3-360 gap as of today's VGC is almost the same as it was immediately before Slim came out (1.46 million then 1.43 million now). So it's not further behind just yet, though no doubt it will be before long given 360 is outselling PS3 on a weekly basis in the UK. Almost 2,000 per week with about 26K to go, it should be back to the pre-slim gap in about 13 weeks.
