Forums - Gaming Discussion - "Resistance 2" Is The Most Underrated PS3 Game Ever?

-Newcloud- said:
IGN over scored it IMO its more of an 8.8, R:FOM was great for its time a dark atmosphere, scary moments, interesting wepons, co-op, 40 player online.. R2 lost the plot it lost the atmosphere and the co-op mode was crap, 60 player online didnt work... as a game it was really good i liked it but as a sequel it changed to much, i hope R3 goes back to the R:FOM formula

I agree. IMO R2 was not better than a 9.4

I thought Resistance 2 was a great game too, i was never really into FPS games until i played Resistance: FOM and then i was hooked. I did think that the 2nd game changed too much from the first one, this is what annoyed me (like not being able to carry all the weapons you have picked up in the weapon reels) so i hope with the 3rd one they go back to the Resistance: FOM formula!

Then again with the sales of the first we have to take into account that the game was a launch game and one of the best of the lot so most people would have bought it and also the game was heavily bundled here in the EU so that would have accounted for Resistance 2 selling quite a lot less!

Resistance 2 rocks, not many games you can play split screen with your mate and online with your other mates at the same time

Resistance is a really good game. I don't get why more didn't like it. There were a lot of memorable parts that stand out, though I'll just list 2 for the sake of not going on too long. One was the area in the rural town, where everything looked like it should be perfect, well except for the hundreds of cocoons laying around. And man when they hatch, you have all of them coming at you at once. Just a lot of high paced action and scares. The second was more subtle, but something I stll thought was cool. My team entered a store (at least I remember it being a store) with a few shelves. But we made our way to the front and there was a few enemies behind a counter. One of my guys went left around a shelf, while I went right. He arrived there slightly ahead of me, so both enemies locked on him. Then I got there and we each got one in the head. That may sound simple, but it really impacted me, especially after playing games with the most retarded ally AI. AI that usually just follows you and can't kill anyone.

Oh yea, the bosses and guns are wicked.

Definitely, one of the best online/offline experiences I ever had with a FPS.

I'm actually replaying Resistance 2 right now, I jumped into it after I Platinum'd A Crack In Time (mmmm, Insomniac games).

To be honest, the game is great, but there are a lot of issues with it. The graphics would be gorgeous if they were more consistent, but the game is filled with a lot of ugly looking things that just make the game look... off. So even though R2 shares the most gorgeous looking water in gaming (along with ACiT, of course), it looks odd wherever water meets land. Even though some textures look phenomenal, others are a blurry mess.

However, despite all the problems, I still love all the weapons in R2, and I love killing Chimera. The multiplayer is also a total blast to play, I love how large some of the maps are.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

2 is underrated in my opinion. But they did really screw it up compared to the original so it being underrated only goes so far.

Oh yeah, I have to disagree with "most underrated PS3 game ever". I feel that Heavenly Sword deserves that title. Heavenly Sword is my favorite action game ever, Nariko is an interesting protagonist, the villains are more memorable than any other villain I've encountered this generation (General Flying Fox ftw, Andy Serkis also does a great job with Bohan), the story is interesting, and the ending is just epic. It also doesn't hurt that Anna Torvs does the work for Nariko.

It's a shame that the game doesn't have much replay value like other action games, it'd also benefit from some trophy support.

Eh, not sure if you want to hear an opinion from the other side of the fence, but...

I'd say Resistance 2 is probably closer to the most overrated PS3 game around (IGN score, anyway). I feel like the reviewers at the time were caught in the fanboy wars, and were pressured to give R2 and Gears of War 2 the same scores in order to be "neutral." The fact that IGN didn't include it in the top 25 PS3 games doesn't mean anything, though, those lists are crap (Gears 2 didn't make the 360 list, either, while Halo 3: ODST did).

I find the Resistance series to be pretty mediocre in general, it's the most generic FPS I've played in a while. I felt like it had introduced nothing new from the FPS I've already played in the 90's. Its only saving grace is in its split screen modes (campaign, online), primarily because so few console games bother with local nowadays.

The fact that Resistance 2's sales are so poor compared to the first can only mean a few things: poor reception from either game, lots of bundled sales from the first, or FPS saturation. I think it's a mix of all three.

Kllzone 2 crushed it in every way possible.
