Forums - Gaming Discussion - UK politician: Games cause kids to lose their childhood

"If you ask me, and you didn't, going outside is overrated, especially with mad oldConservative MPS running around out there."

that made me laugh ^_^

"They are meant to be 18 but nobody cares what it says on the label."

then the childhood is spoiled by poor parents and education, not by videogames

If games drive people away from reality, their reality must already suck.

You know, what you say here really hit home for me.

Saying that games are causing kids to lose their childhood is so presumptuous and ignorant it is really beyond belief.

My dad died when I was a teenager, and some of the best memories I have of him are when I would play Resident Evil 2 at night and he would watch me play (before this he new nothing of video games), totally amazed by the graphics and story. After that he would always stick around before going to bed to watch what games we were playing. We had an awesome time. Treasured memories for me. Now this fuckhead says games steal childhood. Games were a big part of mine, and so, to this arsehat I say a large (and wet) "FUCK YOU!".

Gaming actually enhances childhood. This post actually proves it. I can agree, times I spent gaming are one of the only things left I have to cherish.

Not everybody has the chance to go frolicing outside.

I can not agree more. Battle ogre 64 helped my reading skills immensly, while Age of Empires 2 got me interested in history.

I also remembered the long gaming nights me and my friends would have playing nascar '99 and super smash bros. on my N64.

it's parenting though, plain and simple. My parents wouldn't even let me play many teen rated games until I was 9. While kids as young as 6 today are beating up hoes and shooting the muslim stereotype in FPS games.

That's another thing- I learned a lot of language usage from videogames too. Albeit somethings weren't always accurate (God of War's take on Greek mythology) but I learned a lot of things.

And when I can play Shadows of the Colossus with my mom and watch her marvel at the mere physics of the horse, I would not DARE let some sheister say that makes me lose my childhood.

it's called PARENTING. Do it.

I agree 100%

It is not the fault of the games and people like creepy Mccreepteeth need to just shut up.

This thread makes me wonder...

How many people learn new languages because of video games? I'll bet that a lot of European RPG fans will have been motivated to learn English because they wanted to understand the games. There have also been a lot of people who have learnt Japanese so that they can play games as well.

When I was a child, the last thing I wanted to be was a child.

Basically, if a kid doesn't have a childhood, it's often times because they want so desperately to be an adult. I know I did when I was a kid.

I think his definition of childhood is reading

I'm guessing that by "losing their childhood," he means that children spend too much time playing videogames and not enough time playing outside where they can be abducted by pedophiles. If you ask me, and you didn't, going outside is overrated, especially with mad oldConservative MPS running around out there.

meh....

Well how can a bold old man know what it is to be a child =?
These people are nothing but talk!

But Ghazi4 you make playing outside seem like something coming out from a horror movie :S, yes it is true that sometimes bad things can happen. But hey some of my fondest childhood memories if not almost all of them are from playing outside ... So to sum it up playing outside is to me personally a very importante thing. Now the parents are the ones at fault if they dont take their kids to the park, for trips with friends etc...not video games.
