Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Enterbrain President Hoped For More From Monster Hunter 3

He's still forgetting that it's somewhat of an unknown quantity on consoles. The franchise got huge on PSP, and it's capacity to sell on consoles would probably have been harder to arrive at.

Monster Hunter on Wii is bigger than Final Fantasy on PSP or (soon) DS.  It also sold almost double what it did on PS2.  I also think 1m isn't insanely impressive for MH3, but I'd also say it's a bit better than just "passing".

Yeah, as usual I have to point out that if Monster Hunter Tri just "passed", then the last Monster Hunter on PS2 failed (which was also released since the PSP versions became big), as did MGS4 and every PS3 game bar FFXIII.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Maybe the paid online cut some sales.

Above: still the best game of the year.

well, considering it is the second best selling 3rd party game on a home console, only behind FFXIII, the sales don't seem that bad to me. I can see why people would expect more do to the PSP versions, but it outdid every PS2 version, so it is doing good.

Also, if passing 1m is only "ok" then all but 13 titles must have horrid sales in Japan (on home consoles)

As a side note, there have been 33 1m sellers on DS, and 3 1m sellers on PSP.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

It is the highest selling console version of a series that has prospered on handhelds.

I wonder sometimes if people base their opinions on their biases -- which is OK for a person but not an advisor/analyst.

Yet he didn't even mention FFXIII's sales numbers >_>

(not that I imply in any way they were dissapointing)

This is what I was wondering too.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

.... Dragon Quest under expectations?
he must be joking

yep, we have reached the age of analyst stupidity. Where unless you are a rare exception of being a game that's a multi million seller the game is a failure. yeaahh. so the judgement of success is rare exception.

yep following the model of radio crash, comic crash, movie crash.......

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

He saved the best for last, when he started talking about "game-like games."

When is a game un-game-like?

I think it's a toss-up on how MH3 did. I would say it disappointed in that it really didn't get much of a holiday boost like some other, older titles did. Plus, when you factor in the user base, MH3 is only on about 10% of Wii consoles in Japan. I wouldn't really call that a rousing success. If you look at attach rate, FFXIII actually performed pretty well on PS3. I'm not saying that 1 million is bad, I think it's fine, but I see where this guy is coming from.

Bah!
