Forums - Microsoft - Top 10 Reasons why the XBOX 360 is Very Successful

@ nightsurge

You must also think that the PS3 must not be very successful either then?

Although the PS3 performed better than the 360 taking equal timeframes despite a higher entry pricing and an extra delay for SCEE regions, I thought the platform was only moderately successful during the fat PS3 era. But I also noted a couple of years ago I though sales would greatly improve with better HDTV penetration and improved Blu-Ray demand, as well a slimline PS3 I anticipated to be released by 2009 and games like Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo 5 to be released on the PS3.

I think fiscal year 2009 will be successful for the PS3, but I think the most (very) successful years are still ahead of us for the PS3.

So would you mind cutting out the pointless garble and just answer the question straight out as of this point in the gen?

Considering the high specs upon release and thus entry pricing (and thus being sold below actual costs) I think the PS3 is already successful at this point as it's still considerably outpacing the then cheaper original playstation taking equal timeframes and despite the downfall of PC gaming is still considerably outpacing XBox taking equal timeframes as well:

Sony is a very diverse consumer electronics company, I think the PS3 helped them considerably to advance home consumer electronics market (such as also making Blu-Ray a solid movie format).

Ok so then if the PS3 is successful the 360 must be too.  Especially considering it survived one of the worst nightmares ever to hit a console, and not only survived, but thrived enough to stay ahead of the PS3.

Also, I'm so glad you won't be able to use that stupid "outpacing PS1" argument anymore after this year (because the PS3 won't be selling 20 million like the PS1 did).  Its so misleading since the entire first year and a half of PS1 was just Japan sales while the PS3 was available in both the US and Japan from day one and only 5 months late in Europe.

Like the Gameboy despite the low specs I think it's an outstanding success for Nintendo. If I had kids I would most likely also have bought them a Wii.

But I don't think a PS2.5 would have fitted Sony's long term perspective aims as a consumer electronics company (nor would have been in my personal interest). So personally I am happy there's both the Wii (&PS2) and PS3 available on the market at this point. There isn't much overlap in terms of strongpoints, although I do hope Nintendo will soon come out with a new more capable and Wii compatible console.

Can you fit any more stealth trolling of the Wii in that post, MikeB?

Because hardcore gamers like myself buy tons of games for it. My reasons:

1-XBOX LIVE
2-Gears
3-Best pad

@ nightsurge

The PS1 only missed one holiday season outside of Japan, but unlike the PS3 it was already a low spec gaming console to begin with. The 360 for example had 2 extra holiday season in PAL regions and a bigger headstart in various other regions.

I won't be surprised if the PS3 manages to stay ahead of PS1 tracking by the end of 2010 as well.
