Aren't fighting games suppose to be buttom smashers, or am I wrong. |
If you want to just pick it up and have some quick fun then sure why the hell not, but if a fighting game is a button masher there is no balance and it takes away any competitive experiece that could be had.

You can find VF5 for like 20 bucks at any gamestop, totally worth the investment. I have to warn you the learning curve is steep, VF has never been and never will be a pick up and play fighting game. The single player is also pretty average/boring. If you take it online prepare to be dominated until you have figured things out. With all that said the game is so deep and rewarding when you start to master it, worth the effort if fighters are your kind of thing. |
I like deep fighters. If you had to compare VF to any other fighter, which would it most resemble?

Combos.
More then combos sir, much more then combos. VF rocks a counter system that is individualized to the character, different stances, grabs, counter grabs, and a great block breaking system that is also unique to the character.
Yes it does have a lot of combos and really good ones at that, but VF is special for a whole lot of other reasons.

I am now manually tallying any other fighters people prefer that they post. So Super Smash Bros. is officially part of the list!

Virtua Fighter doesn't really resemble anything. It's very unique. Every character has a unique fighting style, and they spend a lot of time balancing each game as best as they can, only adding 2 new characters per game. Each character is also grounded very closely to reality, and each resembles a real world fighting style.
I suppose it would be closest to Dead or Alive, but it's a far superior series to it.

Hrmm, thats a tough one. As much as VF fan boys like myself hate to admit it I have to say Tekken. Tekken is really the poor mans VF. VF is just better balanced and deeper, it also takes out a lot of the cheap super moves Tekken has. The style isn't as over the top as well.
edit: Listen to the guy above me he said it better. Every character in VF is pretty unique and you are rewarded for playing to its strengths more then any other fighting game. If you like that then you will like VF.

I'm interested in getting into the VF series now. Thanks for explaining it a bit to me. I assume VF5 would be a good place to start?
