Many of you guys had good points. This console generation has been quite interesting since day one I'll admit. I'm actually glad to see Sony/Microsoft more equal this time around. I also am glad to see Nintendo back on top after so many years. The nearly equal levels of market share for Sony/Microsoft can only mean good things to come for consumers.



 How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to Kinect &  PS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

They're also the ones that are bleeding money big time since they're not able to lean on those money makers as much anymore. Meanwhile Microsoft finally has their Xbox business in a profitable position and growing the Xbox userbase well beyond what it was with their previous console. So really who are the ones with the problem?

Keyboard warriors will defend their system of choice at all costs. 360 has done well to hang onto its sales lead over the PS3. Natal and Halo:Reach and more price cuts for 360 are just delaying the inevitable. PS3 to steam roll the 360 in total worldwide sales.

Microsoft will just ride out the storm for the next 8 months. September welcomes Halo: Reach + price cuts + Natal launch (360s last hope).

I don't understand how people think this is good for Sony and bad for Microsoft. PS2: 134302434 74.61% (and still selling)

Xbox: 24189847 13.44%

GC: 21515337 11.95%

Worldwide Console Market Share - This Gen

Wii: 66392161 48.79%

Xbox 360: 37510285 27.57%

PS3: 32173905 23.64%

That pretty much tells the whole story right there. Sony's market share shrunk by over three times, Microsoft's market share more than doubled and Nintendo's market share increased slightly more than four-fold. Huge triumph for Nintendo, great moral victory for Microsoft, huge dissapointment for Sony.

This gen is still young and has only reached slightly more than 3/4 of the unit volume of last gen (136m v. 180m for last gen's consoles) but even taking that into account, the losses for Sony are massive. With numbers like this, it's impossible that all these Nintendo converts are "new gamers". It looks like a good chunk of the PS2 base defected to the Wii. Has to be the case. If not, where are those 100m+ PS2 owners without a PS3?

I think a huge chuck of PS2 owners defected to the 360.. Especially in America. I think most of the "new Wii" owners are casual gamers.

not really ..

the 360 has a lot of very good games and is sure to have enough support in the future, so I don't see why they need to "do sth. fast"

there is no need to stay above the PS3, but knowing MS they will push Natal, which might make the 360 outsell the PS3 again, but tbh MS already won, because they managed to make their system profitable and to satisfy their customers with their games line-up and services

As suprised as most of us might be that Microsoft are ahead of Sony or even for that matter Nintendo are ahead of Sony I do not think now that they have achieved this goal they will be willing to let it go.

The PS3 is currently making some good ground what I cannot see is Microsoft allowing them to overhaul there hard won position and so I expect the unexpected because if nothing else this generation has taught me, it is that.

The main thing I care about is the 360 is all set for this generation. With the # of consoles out there and there proven track record of selling third party software the 360 will be fully supported for the rest of this generation. That really is the key for me being a gamer



PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

That is true but also take into account that PS2 alone = 134m sales. Xbox 360 + PS3 combined = less than 70m sales. So either loads of PS2 owners still haven`t entered the new gen or a good chunk of them defected to Wii or handheld exclusity (I know in Japan, the latter is a big factor). I know it sounds crazy (seeing how it`s normally taken as common knowledge that PS2 owners migrated to Ps360) but with the numbers as they are, there`s gotta be a ton of PS2 owners who are Wii-only owners console-wise this gen.

As a current gen late adopter (I got a 360 early spring 2009), I know a lot of PS2 owners like me waited awhile to upgrade to this gen but by now I don`t think there are too many left. There may be a possibiliity they are waiting for the PS3 and a 360 hard drive model (Arcade doesn`t count) to hit sweet spot pricing ($200-250) though. The PS2 peaked at $200 and $300 now is still a good bit more than $200 then (taking into account inflation). In this economy especially, some may still be waiting. With Xbox 360 out for 4+ years and PS3 and Wii out 3+ years though, you`d imagine that patience would wear thin though unless you real don`t care much about console gaming anymore or you really, really do need to save money.

M$ dont need to do anything. They have Natal. Also they have a slim option and price cut if they want. All these things will put it back above PS3. PS3 is the one that needs to worry about all these things happening.
