You can go watch Avatar in the theatre and buy it on dvd for half what it costs to buy MW2. Avatar in the theatres will make more then MW2, then add in dvd and blu ray sales and you can't even compare the 2.
I don't understand how people compare video game sales to movie ticket or dvd sales. Video games 50-60 dollars in United States, and movie tickets range from 3-15 depending where you go and what format you choose to view it in, then another 15-20 for dvd or 15 to 25 for blu ray.
Both make money but its like comparing apples to baseballs

I think its interesting that film studios are wary about releasing films during the same time as anticipated video game titles. Didn't really think the two affected eachother that much. Sure both are entertainment, but still. I dont chose between one or the other, i do both.

I guess that's why there's hundreds of versions of the game now.
Interesting....
It's very interesting as to how much video games companies love to gouge consumers. Check the difference in production and unit sales. Avatar is about 5 times the production cost, but also five times cheaper.
Do you think if the games were $10 it would sell more and make the difference up with bulk?
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
@ Jayderyu - Agree. Why is it that games cost 60$ when movies like this costs 5 times more to make but goes for 5 times less? Why the magic number of 60$ (or 80-100 if Activision get what they want)?
LOL at production:marketing ratios between those two, no wonder Avatar is much more memorable experience

I think the attach rate of one console would top at around 25 if the games were cheap enough. Single player games will lesser hype would benefit the most, thus making the industry more balanced. Taking an wild guess, I'd say games should release at $30 and re-release at $15 for the difference to make up on sales. Of course that's disconsidering extra console sales that could come for it. Consoles would have space to become more expensive too, and profitable right away.
However, for decades the industry released expensive games because the market was so damn small and they need to be sure to make a profit with lesser sales and I don't think that would be easy to change now.
They said one the news the other day that Avatar had claimed the top spot.. so it now sits at atleast 1.8bn+
Im still not sure why game developers (read activision) claims that they actually needs to raise the prices to make a profit. When Avatar with 5 times the production cost sells for 5 times less, and still is able to do almost 1bn more than MW2 in earnings.
I wonder how much pwnage Wii fit and Wii Fit+ would make if inserted on that list.
