If its really Geohot, then i don't think he would risk his name for some stupid bullshit.

but that's the big point GEOhot was very vocal, and hell even had an interview on the nightly new's about his IPHONE hack

this is one of the most sought after hack's because of such was the challenge, 2 year's straight with bruteforce hacks attempts from some of the best hacker's world wide. and they failed. I am not saying that the PS3 is unhackable, not at all but the very fact that there is little to no real info on what he has done to show proof of concept of his hack attempt.

that one of the main thing's that drive hacker's its the challenge and the boast, i did it first.

not just claim on a blog, but video and proof of concept level of the hack.

like these fellas

and just one example of a cute little hack

[Ben Heck] posted his PS360 controller. This is the case of an Xbox360 controller with the guts of the Dual Shock 3 from the PS3. They Dpad is from a ps2. We guess that if you can build them any way you want, you might as well make it exactly how you want it. Wasn’t there a time when everyone laughed at the bulky Xbox controllers? Yes, we know, they’re smaller now but that comic pops into mind anyway.

I guess it's just a false alarm...

Some people on here will have serious crow to eat shortly. Doubting a claim is fine, saying hacking the PS3 is impossible is to be frank, stupid and proves just how little you do actually know regarding hacking.

If this is true thats cool, but personally I'm more excited about the current 360 homebrew scene which is maturing nicely at the moment. It will be months before anything useful comes from this if the hack works as stated.

A hacked PS3 ain't necessarily a bad thing. It might actually boost sales.

except PS3 profit from hardware not software

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo make bulk of their profits from software. Sony hasn't been doing so good on that end as of late.

Things that need to die in 2016: Defeatist attitudes of Nintendo fans

It will sell more consoles which will help push Sony further into the console war. However, would be bad for Sony's profits on games (obviously) not on the system or accessories.

It's just that simple.

However, even with LV1, the beauty of the Cell's security is the Isolated SPU mode, which keeps code out of main memory, and it isolates itself totally - so it "in theory" can not be dumped, which is of course, where all the goodies are (keys, keys, keys)

also:

v0 (bootloader) just takes a tiny bit of code, pushes it to the cell to start the bringup and lv1 doesn't do any crypto, it just sends an encrypted image (the ldr's) to a isolated SPU which is what actually "works the magic."
Sure, that might be sufficient for saying "Hello World" in Linux but it wouldn't help with using the "PS3" part of the PlayStation 3 to do everything else.

So I am going to wait and see.

Are you posting on ps3news aswell ? Oh i see that are quotes.

That is true in the past as it is true right now. the PS3 has already been hacked in some parts already, it just the level of the hack that's what I think many are overlooking. I have no doubt that some one may have or will indeed Hack the PS3 GEOhot may have indeed done it. But like I stated, I am going to wait and See just the extent of or if even at all of the Hack.

without proof of concept I have some doubt's of this claim.

just sayin.

no I get updates on news from there in my email from the site, an that response was short to the point of what the SPU security is on the PS3 i have the IBM white paper on the security of the PS3 if your interested it's quite robust in its security. the PS3's security is no joke.

so no that was not my post on there but that point was straight on the money.
