Three in a row is a little absurd.   I don't know anyone who has had that many problems.  It is a very reasonable assumption that he might have his PS3 contained within a compact area with poor ventilation which would cause excessive heat / more likely to failures.  Plus,  he had three 60GB models in a row?   Were they all refurbs?  Or did he buy one used? 

This sounds like all the 360 owners that were in denial when other people would report multiple broken 360s. 360 owners used to blame the user too.

Retrasado (is that Spanish for retarded?) I sympathize with you, I really do. I had my 60gb break right after warranty and had to fix it myself, it still occasionally crashes and I'm kind of afraid to play it too much. I'm thinking about buying a Slim since I never really play PS2 games anymore. But I doubt you did anything wrong, I know multiple PS3 users in real life that have had their PS3 die from either YLOD or a bad BR Drive.

And yes after you build up your game library make friends online and all of that (Trophies, Achievements), you can't just throw it all away and start from scratch with a different system. PS3 has some great games and I want to make sure I can play them for extended periods of time. I can't afford a slim right now, but maybe in a couple of months I will pick one up.

Don't listen to fanboys, I treated my PS3 like gold and hardly played it (I payed $600 damnit) and it still died. BTW I have 2 360s and both have died, my second 360 was serviced and works but I get a little nervous every time I turn it on..

And yes I take care of my stuff. I have a 20+ year old NES that still works and my original PS2 still works even though those systems were very fragile too.

Have you actually tried leaving it for a day and trying again, or just thrown it out as soon as you saw the yellow light? The PS3 manual says it's to tell you that it's overheating, not that your PS3 is gone forever

I know you wont admit it, and you'll claim you've done everything you're supposed to, but if you keep having issues then its most likely you're doing something wrong.

heh. from what I understand, that is a rough translation of one meaning of the word (though I admit my spanish skills are somewhat lacking). I thought it would be kind of ironic for anyone reading my posts that knew what it meant...

and yeah, it seems like no one believes me when I tell them that I've had (now 3) PS3s break on me. I've had a few friends' PS3s break, but never more than one. Of course, my younger brother and sister (and she actually likes Warhawk a lot.. and she can kick my ass at it... >_> ) do play it quite a bit so who knows if that's what the problem is... though that definitely wasn't what caused the laser to go. oh well, what can ya do? at least they didn't make me pay like anything for the second and now third times even though they were both waaay out of warrenty.

EDIT: also, even though I don't post as much I used to, I think that a quick glance through my posting history will show that I am not a rabid anti PS3 guy. Its actually my favorite console this gen, though I do freely admit that the other consoles so have merit (actually the only reason I don't have a 360 is I don't ahve enough time to play even just the PS3 like at all, let alone a 360 or PC... college student life ftw...). if you still don't believe me, I can understand that, but I'm telling you waht I'm saying here is true. you are welcome to take it or leave it, it makes no difference to me, but if you have a 60 GB launch PS3 I highly recommend you take very good care of it....

You should try getting a small thermometer, and try placing it behind the PS3, and see how hot it gets. Mine is by the window, so, it's always cool, and it's on the small table next to the TV where the cable box used to sit... which is now on the floor.... I wouldn't dare put my PS3 on carpet, screw that..

I dunno, it's probably, you... doing something... how are you turning it off? Using the switch? Has your power gone out for some weird reason while you were playing, or had the PS3 on?. Maybe over-vacuuming it is the problem?

Think about it, when you vacuum, you're throwing particles into the air... Unless you've got one of those super vacuums that don't do that.... Just dust the thing off weekly with no vacuum, and, when you think you should vacuum, do it, but, I think that's where the problem is. Give it a rest, vacuum once a month... I never vacuum mine, I just give it a good dusting with a DAMP paper towel... the expensive kinda that's good for like 21 uses and feels like soft cloth.

Don't use windex, use water..... Again, you may be vacuuming too much. Look, get an air filter, and dust the top of the PS3 when you do your regular dusting, if you don't give it a chance to build up, there's no reason to vacuum anyway.

I still have my 60 GB launch model. I have a USB fan attached to one of the PS3s USB ports that blows out the back of my TV stand to help keep it cool. I run the thing all the time, not just games but movies and media streaming.
