It's actually obvious that the next Wii will be in HD.

The question is, what is the "Wii HD?" The Wii's proper successor console, or the half-step upgrade?

A stupid point to bring up, perhaps, but it must be done whenever we discuss this.

How long until people realize that a Wii HD is inevitable. There is no chance it cant happen if Nintendo releases new home consoles.

Maybe it will take another 5 years to happen. HD Is not a special feature HD comes automatically. Every improvment of the Wii Hardware would automaticaly put the Wii succesor into a positon that it is able to display 720p.

Nintendo would have to slow down the Wii succesor. HD Hardware is cheap. Look at the 360 most CPUS and GPUS are able to render in higher defentions then 640x480.

If the Hardware wont be improved there is no need for a succesor. Nintendo would have difficulties to get chips which are so weak that they cant display HD but which are stronger then the WII CPU/GPU. What should they use a single core CPU and an old GPU. Or netbook Technology ? This will lead to even more problems in 3-4 years because it will be hard to make a Console without HD. But where is the point in releasing a new Console without any technical improvment ?

Its completly senseless. 3d will only happen if the WII 2 has a strong Hardware= Wii HD.

Hd is nothing special anymore. Subnotebooks are stronger then the HD Consoles. It doesnt cost money.

If the next WII wont be able to render in HD how will it look like ? What chips are used and what should be the improvment.

There is a difference between an imminent update to the current Wii system primarily intended to satisfy a demand for HD on Wii, and the launch of a next generation system years from now that incorporates HD technology into a larger project for general advancement.

This is pretty obvious.

The next Nintendo console will most likely incorporate High Definition, however there is no need and there never will be a 'Wii HD' this generation.

And Pachter said there will be a WII HD basically a wii with HD abilities ? This Gen ?

This is not going to happen this cant be solved through a simple update its impossible.

The WII would need another CPU/GPU a Multicore CPU and a 2-3 year old GPU and a lot more ram.

They would have to design a completly new console from the scratch and it would probably need a different housing. Ofcourse the new HD titles wouldnt be compatible. With the old Wiis

Pachter probably meant they will make an HD console next gen. Anything else makes no sense.

I think most people which are talking about a Wii HD think of a Wii successor after this gen ends. Wii HD= Next Gen. If pachter really talks about something like this and thinks of an "HD"
Update of the Wii he just have no clue about computer technology.

Maybe I have the wrong definition of WII HD. Is this a Wii which upscales the picture ? Makes no sense that has nothing to do with HD gaming the difference is even bigger then the difference between Bluray and Upscaled DVD. It wouldnt be real HD gaming. Native resolution is all what matters everything else are just nice numbers. Or what does he mean ?


I think this is a case of classical misunderstanding. I cant believe that he made such a stupid claim because its just impossible this cant happen. There is no way to make it happen.

Every kind of Wii HD would be the beginnig of the next gen. Except a WII with HDMi port and upscaling functionality but this has nothing to do with HD gaming and Nintendo knows that the difference is almost not noticable. This would make ZERO impact most people wouldnt be able to detect the differences. And would think they were beeing tricked by Nintendo because of the Name. Nintendo wouldnt do that ever because it would be an image damage.

The correct answer is never.

People will accept the next Nintendo platform as Wii HD even if it is fundamentally different from the wii.

Whether or not it really is a Wii HD is irrelevent.

Pachter claimed that a Wii HD would arrive in 2009,  now he claims it is to arrive in 2010. It's been widely discussed in the media.

It's not going to happen.
