Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: "It Only Does 256 Players" new MAG ad.

i really wonder if the are going to do a funny "Heavy Rain" Ad, i believe it wouldn't fit the tone of the game.

Wait, it is a follow up to this ad, where he ends the ad with an origami sculpture on his desk.  I don't believe it would work, and not sure even if Sony is going to advertise it on TV much.

funny commercial but i couldn't find any sence with the ending lol

Watch the ad again, and then see what Kevin Butler's latest job title is, to make sense of it.  Or do you mean the "It only does _____" at the end?

the attacking team would spawn on the edge of the maps because they have no air support to spawn nearer to the middle so it would not be very wise, but there are no technical barriers or something

I really don't like the "It only does everything!" slogan. I just have never liked arrogance, and it's a very arrogant stance IMO. But yes, these are fun ads.

The marketing advantage that the PS3 has is that it does more than the 360.  So, they push it does "Everything" and then lists all the stuff it does.

@gamings_best, You do realize the game has play types for just TDM gameplay, right? *facepalm*
Also, MW2 is no different from any other FPS. If you are good at it, you are good at them all. Especially if you play it right and use teamwork rather than just camp or go run'n'gun. What I am talking about in MW2 has nothing to do with consistency, though I do not understand your argument. Bullets hitting different parts of the body should cause different amounts of damage. This seems far more realistic than always taking the same amount of bullets no matter where you hit. The issue with MW2 is just from latency/lag. That's why I used the killcam example because it proves that in that split .5 second gun battle, you may have shot 5 bullets on your screen, but due to latency, the other person never saw you fire to begin with and he is the one that gets the kill then. MAG is dedicated servers, so that should help tremendously on this type of lag, and I was not trying to say it occurs as often as it does in MW2. From what I hear the lag is very very minor in MAG.

@Dgc, yes it was the open beta, and no I have not played it. I am speaking purely by ear from what I have heard.

@CGI, thanks for clarifying. I wonder if anyone has actually played in a 128v128 setup?

bull fucking shit

Um, no.  Pretty sure from my experienc with games like Halo, CoD (since the original), CS:S,  Rainbow Six, etc. have shown me this.  Once you are good at one FPS they are all pretty much the same and it is easy to be skilled at any of them.  Especially if you play it right and use teamwork rather than just camp or go run'n'gun.  The only games that were ever different were like the old Quake/UT games that were all about jumping around like a maniac and had very unrealistic speed/gravity/weapons/shields/health systems.

I played a 128v128 setup and I was able to walk around in an area that occupied 128 players [64 from each side]. At that point I wasn't really playing. Just wanted to see how big the game was. I didn't walk around all objects cause I figured I wasn't really helping my team after a while.

wyvers also commented about walking around all objectives on the map.

First you mention some cam that's not in the game. Now You speak of the suppression game mode (TDM as you call it) which wasn't even playable in the open beta or the later parts of the closed beta [not sure about early on in the closed but when i joined, it wasn't there].

I'm asking around on the MAG forums if it was ever there and so far I've only gotten "No".

^Good gosh, people. For crying out loud how many times do I have to say I was NOT saying MAG had kill cam?

And the TDM stuff may have been from the closed beta then. The stuff about invisible walls or whatnot was from someone talking about an IGN preview or something.

@Nightsurge

I have to completely disagree with that "once you've played one you've played them all" like comment.

Going from CoD4 to KZ2 required major adjustments. I was doing fine in CoD4. Rough start but during my last 3 months of playing that game I would always end matches with 1.8:1 or more K/D ratio. Killzone was a completely different game. I couldn't run and gun. I had to stay with others. An assault rifle, pistol, grenades and a purely rambo attitude didn't cut it any more. Also, defending objectives in KZ2 was usually more intense than pretty much anything i've witnessed in the over 3 weeks in total hours I've put into CoD4.

Going from KZ2 to MAG, there experience felt a bit more Arcadey than like CoD4 but again, those that came in expecting cod4 like play never did aswel as everyone else that took the time to adapt to the game.

I get that. I just find it out that you first mention it, then say that it's not really noticeable without kill cam, how dedicated servers help, and how you're not saying it's as bad as MW2. I'm just thinking "Why bother mention it?".

Also, seems that Suppression was through certain period of the closed beta but rarely.
