Not to be complaining at a 9.6 review here, but did Brudvig really criticize it for being too "referential." I guess you have to have some cons but still, I don't grasp how it's a bad thing that the game is much better if you played the first one, which is on the same platform no less. *scratches head*

Well...

Mass Effect 1's choices, and story will heavily impact on the 2nd.

Without playing ME1, the experience of ME2 will be nowhere near as great.

I think that's why it was a negative. They have to think about everyone playing it, not just the people who will be playing both.

What do you think it will recieve from gametrailers?
i mean just in comparison, 2009 Goty got 9.3, it exceeded its prequel in everything but did not innovate and that was the reason for 9.3.
Mass Effect 2 also seems to do everything better than ME1, but does it innovate? What do you think?
Will it get more than 9.3 and gametrailers words of "a title has to innovate" are for the poo? Does it innovate (and at what) and get a better score?

Don't spoil too much lol, waiting for ma copy

It depends on what kind of innovation you're looking for. There's a little bit of innovation from Mass Effect 1 with them tweaking the classes and interrupts in the dialogue system. On the other hand, is there any other RPG out there with anything quite like the cinematic style that this game has? The dialogue system and focus on the characters is something BioWare is quite ahead of the competition on. Of course, this is just my opinion, and I've only played the first one. (bought CE today on Amazon!!)

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. More reason for people to play the first one then, I suppose. (as if they needed another one!)

I would definitely play the first before this one if at all possible.

I just watched the first 30 minutes of ME2, in 720p, and really wasn't impressed. I've never played Mass Effect so i wanted to check it out. The graphics and production seemed well done, interfaces looked cool, ship interiors, explosions, all looked great. The enemy in this first part, dum robots, have no AI at all, they just stand there and get shot. It's third person like Uncharted, and uses cut scenes during loading just like Uncharted. The cut scenes aren't motion captured as well though, and the main character, who you can customize, is bland with no personality whatsoever. You can make small changes to the story line now and then by selecting from preset dialog choices, but it's still linear. You 'hack' certain door locks by jumpering some circuit boards in a super simple mini game several times in the first 30 minutes. I was considering on getting this for pc, but really was surprised how I wasn't interested at all. I know the first 30 minutes isn't the whole game, but I just can't see what all the hype is about.

Really? I haven't played the first one but am interested in this one as it sounds amazing, should I just jump in on this one or should I start with the first one? would I know what is going on if I just get this one?

Thanks!

P.S, amazing scores so far!

You will know what is going on, but you will miss all sorts of cool little links I would imagine.
The IGN review confirmed as much. You will really enjoy this game on it's own, but adore it as a continuation of your game in the first.

If playing the first isn't an option that is one thing. But if you can, play it before this one.

I can get the first one either pre-owned, new (if not too much) or from games on demand,

For some reason the first one never appealed to me but then again I didn't really look that much into it and still don't know much about it, anyone want to give me a very brief re-cap of what the game and story is about?

There is a mass effect in five minutes on Gametrailers I think that takes a comical (but largely accurate) look at what happened in the first game.

Honestly, if you get a day or so, play the first one. Proper playthroughs can take anywhere from 15-35 hours depending on how quickly you run through and how many side-quests you do.

It's still great, even if some of the technical hitches look even worse two years+ on.
