Michael Pachter’s predicted for the millionth time that Wii HD will be coming this year, as is a motion sensor-based DS.

The Wedbush Morgan analyst made his remarks after a recent interview from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, in which the exec said the firm’s next handheld would likely have motion control.

“It’s unlike Nintendo to go this long without a gameplay innovation, and my guess is that they have something planned for launch within the next 12–18 months,” said Pachter.

“A motion-sensing DS is quite logical, given the success of the iPod Touch as a gaming device. I presume that they will give us something with the memory and controls of a DS and the fun motion-sensing chip included in the iPod Touch, and assume it is for launch in the fall.”

And what would be the biggest surprise of this year, Michael?

“I think the biggest surprise will be the introduction of the Wii HD.”

Since last June, Pachter’s predicted Wii HD is coming on many occasions.

But Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has catagorically denied there will be a Wii HD anytime soon.

He even said last week after Netflix was confirmed for the system that HD content is “no loss.”

If he means an upgrade to the hardware to render games in HD, he could be right (though I still think it's quite unlikely).

If he means an entirely new console (which is what I believe he meant since the beginning), well...

Wait. He says we'll get a Wii HD because Nintendo is going to want to introduce an innovation? How's that for a contradiction!

I still don't believe that, the Wii is selling like hotcakes. There is no reason to replace it yet.

I think he's referring to a motion sensing DS.

To be fair though, I hope they do release a Wii HD.

Why do people listen to this clown leave alone report on what he says? What has he ever done in this industry?

The only time he is ever right is when things are so blatantly obvious that everyone's little sister and grandparents already knows the answer. Even then, he will say go in another direction and guess wrong.

Jokes on him wii HD is in consequential, new super mario bros causes all competitor's to die, and all business models to be broker, for that is the law of the brothers.

I linked to the June article because it specifically says that he means an entirely new console. Just to make sure that Pachter can't say he's right if Nintendo does something like an upscaling/uprendering solution.
