1. Dad had a panic attack trying to figure out all the extra gizmos he needed beyond the console, such as rechargeable batteries, extra controls, games and attachments.

Should have bought a PS3.

Huh? Are you saying he should just buy a PS3 and only buy movies?

Well he woudn't need to spend money on batteries or wireless...

Your reading comprehension is horrible. If he were going for wireless, he wouldnt have to spend any as the Wii has that for free. He wanted to buy a frickin CABLE.

OT: 30 Bucks for rechargeable batteries? Were they coming with a "happy end" or why so expensive?

If a company launched a console that did more than others on the markert out of the box (like having two controllers, bundled games, and cables for all the different hook up options), it would get doubly killed for being overpriced (because all that stuff adds up), and for forcing things down consumer's throats that they don't want.   Sony faced a lot of that with PS3 having Blu-Ray in it.

I understand the battery thing, but extra controllers are a hidden cost? O_o

Well it is a "party" console. Just like LIVE is part of 360

Console ownership ain't cheap. Nothing new. I've been thinking about getting a Wii but putting it off. There are a lot of hidden expenses to that thing. Rechargeable battery pack (I lost mine. lol), Classic Controller and/or Gamecube Controller (I want to play Brawl and what not), Wii Motion Plus (because I'd like to try Tiger Woods, Red Steel 2, etc), extra Wiimote + Nunchuk if you don't want to just play solo. Arcade Stick for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom possibly (if not, classic controller at the bare minimum). Shit adds up. When/If I get a Wii, I figure I might get away with the Rechargeable batteries at first if I put off playing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Brawl, Red Steel 2, etc.

I can see how this would overwhelm new gamers.

As usual gaming gets a bad rap. Guy should have done some research. I just bought a 52 inch Sony Bravia cost me $1800.00 was that the total cost no. I needed the following HDMI cable $60.00, wall mount $100.00. You need to look into these things it CLEARLY states on the box whats in there.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I wonder if that guy thought the same thing when he bought his computer that he used to write his shitty article with.

"I have to pay for internet every month?! Wtf? Stupid hidden costs...."

I don't want to be a douche, but $60 for a HDMI cable?! You can do much better, I'd say spend no more than $8-$12 on a HDMI cable. You gain 0 benefit going from a cheaper cable signal quality wise to a more expensive cable. There was a test on an investigative consumer show here in Canada involving HDMI cables at the $10, $50, and $200 price points. No difference in signal quality between the cables whatsoever.

No thanks for the advice I will start buying the cheaper ones.  I figured after spending $1900.oo, $60.00 was chump change.  I did buy a cheap one for the 360 and it does look awesome.  Love the TV though!!!  A sony Tv and Sony sound system playing a 360 look both companies should be happy

I understand him. I remember when I got a girlfriend, and had to return her after 5 hours because of all the hidden costs.

Who spends $60 on a HDMI cable?
