When you consider that Wii has over 9 million hardware lead and it has constatly broken HW records in north america this really isn't that big surprise. Actually it took pretty long time.

It sold MORE software in less time...

With almost 50% more machines sold. Now what a success (especially when Wii play is included into those)

Compare the total ownership time, i bet it is quite similar.  That's what happens when a system sells really fast.  Wii has sold nearly 50% more software since wii launched in the us, the thing that screwed up the comparison is the year headstart.  The wii is accelerating fast, but if we go back just a few months before the price cut wii only had a 24 million userbase, quite similar to 360's now.

You have to give the 360 some credit for the attach rate, but ownership time is also a factor in attach rate as well.  Systems that sell slower tend to have higher attach rates, or systems that have been out longer.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Another day, another bad news for MS and the 360.

Congrats to Nintendo ! The Wii deserves it for bringing something new to the video game industry.

well, 360 games weren't bundled with almost every console, controller and accessory. im not trying to bash wii's success in software sales but this was pretty much expected

NPD doesn't count Wii Sports. As for Wii Play, I don't buy the arguement that the game sells only because (or mainly because) the controller. If people just wanted a controller, they'd just buy a controller. People are obviously getting incentive to spend the extra 10 bucks to buy the game.

I worked for a time at the Australian version of GameStop and 'upselling' people to the WiiPlay pack was a no-brainer, you told them that it was a controller + a game for $10 more than just a controller. The vast, vast majority of Wii buyers were parents buying for young kids and themselves and didn't know squat other than what they saw on TV, we LOVED Wii buyers :D

Worldwide, this is not news (more like olds, amirite?)

Wii 436,085,356
360 317,839,205

Americas only it's more recent that it occured, but still not all that new
Wii 256,196,729
360 230,673,949

Someone asked how much of the software was not by Nintendo.

Total software sold on Wii, Worldwide - 436.09 million

Total software by Nintendo, on Wii, Worldwide - 237.44

Total software on Wii, not by Nintendo, worldwide, is thus 198.65 million.

If you compare that to the X360's worldwide 3rd party sales, those are roughly 275 million. On the Ps3, it's roughly 160 million.

Congrats Nintendo :)

it is a shame 2:1 userbase with only nintendo games sell on the Wii

I'm going to make the easy assumption that you didn't read through the thread at all.  What you posted has not only been addressed, but it's also simply not correct.

Smash Bros: 2363-5325-6342

its only because the Wii gets spammed with crappy games

I Hate the fact that all these pillows are contaminated by retard!!
