Forums - Sony Discussion - Gran Turismo 5 is already profitable?!!!

If Sony offered a car for each country it promotes the game on, would the money be enough?

It would be awesome to go on a tournament and win a PS3 with GT5 and take those home with a brand new car. It doesn't need to be a nice car, just a cheap humble one would do the trick.

no it hasn't made a profit, but it has gone a hell of a long ways toward getting there. The 60 million number wouldn't even include marketing, which is no doubt gonna be huge. I don't know if they include the costs of prologue seperately or more or less include it in the costs. Prologue itself had a few costs too i'm sure.

true story.

+ the retailer wants a piece of it

+ the logistic / distribution wants a piece of it

+ The marketing campaign for GT5:p wants a piece of it

+ the marketing campaign fot GT5 isn't included

+ GT5p was bundled like crazy

Let's wait for a press release insted of listening to a random blogger.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

No...

A ton of those copies were bundled, and what about retailer margins, manufacturing costs, marketing expenses etc?

Bundled, yes. Like crazy, no.

in Europe it was bundeled with the Dualshock 3 Controller, i guess a lot of early adapters bought that.

...still Money that mostly went directly into Sonys Pockets

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

GT5Prologue made a massive profit

GT5 has not

I believe that revenue from GT5p could be as low as $50M. How many of those sales were bundles or at a cut price? This really all depends on how much retailers had to pay for those copies.

I agree with this. Also, I believe the dev cost is much higher than $60 million. I estimate final cost will be at least $80-100 million. And $50 million for marketing = total sum $130-150 million.

But that would still need only 2-3 million of GT5 sold at full price for it to be profitable ($60-90 million net revenue added to the $50 mill from GT5p).

Final profits could be 10 million x $25 - $90 mill = ~$150 million

Sony will advertise that Game reaaalllyy realllyyyy heavy...and i think it will be the first and last 10 mill + seller on the PS3...unfortanetly :(

It's listed as 4.17 million on PD's website. With numbers dating from September, before the holidays.

I would have thought even with all the other costs included that would be close to the region of covering all of GT5's budget.
