Someone should add up the sales of all the 360 exclusives and the sales of the PS3 exclusives and see which ones have sold more. Also keep it up to date through the year.

Gears isn't first party. And I thought ME wasn't since there was rumours about it being on PS3? Not sure but I was under the impression they were an EA studio?
That's something I've never understood. PS3 reached 300 million, but their best-seller is GT5 Prologue. Perhaps the price of a Blu-Ray disc and the income of new titles keeps owners away from getting them? I mean, if I had one and come across MGS4 and FFXIII in March, I would probably pick up the release, even though I expect to buy both games equally.

Uncharted 2 may get close, even God of War III. But I think Sony will continue to have 3-4mill sellers and be just fine. Truth be told, Nintendo is the only company of the three with more than one franchise that does over 5 million. |

sony has never had 5 Million + sellers apart from GT
well crash too, but that was over a decade ago
All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Gears 1-2 were a first party productions, even if Microsoft doesn't own the IP. Ditto with the first Mass Effect. It's a bit like Crash 1-3 or Spyro 1-3 on the PS1 (Universal owns the IPs, they were 3rd party developed, but still 1st party productions). Microsoft funded development, Microsoft staff worked on the games, they handled publishing and promotion entirely... they just don't own IP.

No, you're right, Mass Effect nor Gears of War are 1st Party. And IMO, if you count Gears, you must MGS4 for Sony as well. |
MGS4 is 100% (money-hatted) 3rd party exclusive. Konami themselves funded it, published it, advertised it... it's not in any way shape or form a 1st party game.
Again, Gears is most analogous to Crash and Spyro on PS1. Nobody would've called those games "3rd party". MGS4 is more like what we had with Tomb Raider 2 on PS1.
For the same reason that Sony's video game division doesn't have a mascot. M$ has Master Chief, Nintendo has Mario. But Sony? The create so many different games and franchises....well...that 'essence' is their mascot. Not one individual

For the most part, I agree with you, though I wouldn't call it 'retarded'. The ones the company owns and creates should be what counts. Microsoft games are actually off-topic in a thread such as this, but it helps when comparisons can put things in perspective. Jarrod raises good points, but I still think MGS4 should count as an exclusive PS3 game if Gears and Mass Effect are counted as exclusive Xbox 360 games. Make sense? |
Its console exclusive, and if that counts, so should MGS4.
