Well Sony's strategy always has been to have quite a few 2-3 million sellers instead of just having two 5+ million sellers like MS.
They are not so dependent on one franchise.
Well Sony's strategy always has been to have quite a few 2-3 million sellers instead of just having two 5+ million sellers like MS.

the reason
146million PS2 owners
32million PS3 owners
when the 32million came over from the PS2 they didnt all just like 1 sort of game, they like alot of diffrent ones
sooooooooooo as of now, not game will get huge numbers as everyone likes diffrent things
get it?
why is it that aside from gears of war and halo most 360 games like like trash?
kameo, ace combat 6, n3, tenchu z, earth defense force, blue dragon, chromehounds, lost odyssey, infinite undiscovery, star ocean 4, tales of vesparia. ng2, too human, ninja blade, guilt gear ux2 (something like that) havent even sold a million yet?
i cant believe that crap perfect dark zero made 1.3 million, doa4 was lucky to make a little over a million, halo wars sold around 1.5 million, pgr sold 1.8 and the almight forza 3 definitive racer of the gen only sold 2.2 million? crackdown sold about 1.5 million
so what if kz2 sold 2.18 million? it outsold the best rpg on the 360 mass effect.
When you say, Sony's strategy to sell less than 5M, who are you kidding? Surely, they'd want them to sell more than 5M but they just aren't capable of pushing out such block busters like many of Nintendo's.
It's not that they don't want to, they are unable to.

Gnizmo said: The answer is far more simple than most people seem to think. To create a game that sells over 5 million you must accomplish one of two very difficult feats. You either make a game with a ridiculously broad base of consumer. Sony franchises do not typically go for universal appeal. The two that I can think of that have tried recently would be Ratchet and Clank, or Little Big Planet. Neither were quite broad enough for various reasons that I don't care to discuss. The best in the genre, or market is a problem of competition. They have extremely good third party support. Consequently many games they have fail to become the best experience in the eyes of the consumer. This splits some sales between the two games, with the percieved better one getting the lion's share. All of the above statements are meant to reflect the situation at this very moment. I am not saying none of the games currently released won't, or can't make it. Simply that they have not yet. Any and all analysis and opinions offered could be very different in the future. |
Did you read my posts?? :-*
it mite start doin 3-4 mn at a regular pace for most upcoming sequels...and probably even more. partly the initial low userbase is to be blamed..but MGS4 still being able to manage 4.3+ million already is a great and uncharted 2 is all set to cross 5 million eventually,
well... there's not a single game [so far] in the ps3 that appeals to 5 million people, simple as that
