I simply don't understand why it's so difficult to form a proper sentence and nt tipe like dis 4ever.

My gear grinders related to typing:

1) People using aformentioned shortcuts: u, 4, y, etc.
2) people not spacing after fullstops and not capitalising.it makes the post near impossible to read.

Other than that, I don't really care. If you can get the point across, and the post is legible, I don't care if you're using subjunctive when you should use pluperfect, or whatever. Oh, and it's obvious when English is not somebody's first language. The post looks very different from that of a very lazy native English speaker. To be honest, those can be a little hard to read, but I can hardly blame the poster for that.

People do that in other languages as well? Hmm.

I'm really crazy about spelling and grammar. What makes me crazier is when people call each other out on it instead of addressing whatever topic is at hand. If it's a professional piece of writing on the internet, I expect perfection. For chatting, tweeting, or forums I have no such expectations.

Poor grammar is a pet peeve of mine. Fair enough I make a few mistakes, like many people do; but I also think there is a limit to how poor grammar can reasonably be.

Most of the time I find people who don't use punctuation to be intolerable, but special acknowledgement goes to the following...

• Needless abbreviations, e.g. 2 instead of two (I'm sorry, saving yourself the time and energy of missing out two letters is not remotely justifiable).
• Getting you're and your confused* (this is also interchangeable for they're, there and their, but not to such an extent).
• PEOPLE WHO USE CAPITAL LETTERS TO EXPRESS THEIR POINT.
• A lack of spell checking. Everyone can misspell words, it happens to all people, from professional authors to shelf stackers. But some people just refuse to correct their spelling before they post and that annoys me.
• Confusing bought and brought with each other (Ok, I do this from time to time. But some people do it all the time and that annoys me)

However, even though it annoys me I like to think I refrain from picking on people's grammar. I rarely attack someone based on their grammar.

(*I'm talking about the incorrect contractions of words, such as using "your" to mean "you are", which should be "you're")

With all that said and done, I would like to note that I myself have poor grammar, I accept that, so I also accept that I am a bit of a hypocrite.

I didn't realise that the sole intention of grammar was to be a determinant between what is, or isn't, a thesis.

Ah yes, "your" and "you're". Seeing that mistake made in a post makes me half-ignore the rest of it.

In a perfect world, people would type out all numbers up to ten in letters, but that's pretty low on the grammar improvement priority list.

The capital letters thing is okay once in a while if it's to emphasise. When using Quick Reply, typing can be a pain, so I can accept that. I do it once in a while. And all the best thread titles have CAPS. BUT PEOPLE WHO TYPE ENTIRE SENTENCES AND/OR THREAD TITLES IN CAPS ARE ANNOYING, YES.

For example:

Good: SCEE REALLY needs to get their act together.

Bad: SCEE REALLY NEEDS TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER

Worse: SCEE RLY NEEDS 2 GET THERE ACT TOGTHRE.

im assuming you understood the context of my post, im not saying that, what im saying is that having good grammar on an internet forum is not neccessary nor particularly important, certainly not compared to a thesis for example.

You wouldn't believe how bad it is in French. I can sometimes stop one whole minute in front of someone's facebook status trying to figure out what the hell they're trying to say.

I don't understand that point at all. If you make an effort to write correctly on an Internet forum then when the times comes to write something official you will have developed good writing habits which will reduce the number of mistakes you make.
