Forums - Sony - Is the Sony Playstation 3 the right choice?

I don't know how much people love the PS3 on this site but it seems more of a logical choice at this point in time and I wouldn't have said this about 2 years ago. It's more cost effective, multiplat games, good exclusives, and free online, with a GUI that's not a cluster fuck ad-fest that you pay for, built in wifi, gigabit lan, blu ray movie playback, and now smaller with the slim version all at 300 bucks base price, like, really?

Around the Network

actually 360 is more FPS, TPS
PS3 is more RPG, Racer, Action/adventure

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Lucky to last more than two years? LOL what are you smoking? There won't be another leap in performance required for at least another 3 years until after the next generation of consoles!

need 4 gigs for 64bit..... and it's the video card these days that determines your performance with PC games for the most part unless the dev is somehow behind times and still uses the CPU to handle a lot of the shit, but even then a fast dual core would do it for the most part.

personally, if you have a gaming PC, go with the PS3, if not, then it depends on how much you want to pay down the road because PS3 is cheaper than a 360 if you count in the features of the hardware itself +online play cost atm, if money is not an issue, then buy a gaming PC and a PS3 =P, but I'm assuming money is an issue since you have to pick one, so yeah.... it's not like sending mails across ps3 costs any money, cross game chat is nice of course, but not a requirement if you think about it. The official PS3 bluetooth mic is also really really nice since you can use it in 3 different ways lol.

LOL you need 4GB for 64bit as much as you require BRD for a BR player. Also 2GB is really good and the more efficient driver model in W7 doesn't need more ram than Vista does which is again 2GB.

Why would you buy a console to play movies at full HD 1080P whilst playing games at between just under and 720P? Isn't that silly? Don't your eyes just burn with upscaled DVD nastyness visuals which would drive you in one direction anyway which is a PC? Have you seen Crysis or Farcry 2 or Call of Duty Played on a big 42" TV at its native resolution rather than at shitty DVD resolutions? Why is it that when the PS3 has BR DVD quality sucks because its upscaled. But noone ever thinks to go 'OH the game visual quality sucks too, I hate scaling'?

I can't stand scaled content which is why I play my Wii on an SD TV it really does chafe my eyes. Playing PS3 games at less than native resolution on a set is like needles in my eyes.

ok don't you think are being a little shortsighted, in the PC world things always change rapidy, for example i bought a medium gaming system last year which could have played on all of last years games, this year i need to atlest upgrade my cpu, which means a new motherboard as well (in my case), and some more RAM, now i can only definately get away with using my old graphics card (as is an ATI RADEON HD CARD)

That is why I and the other person recommended more RAM, yes 2GB will do for now, but think about the future...

PS BRD are really cool, and I love my PS3.

Edit: PS you really need to use a HD TV to see all the beauty of the PS3 graphics, if you are using an SD-TV that is the cause of your problem right there, also you need to play on uncharted 2, if that baby does not convince you that graphics can be mind blowing on ps3, nothing will

I personally have 8gigs because I do a lot of video editing, encoding, and live streaming at pretty good quality, a blackmagic intensity pro needs a lot of background memory and decent processing power for local HD capturing as well. Windows 7 right now does handle memory much better from what I've seen too so I'm pretty happy in general. I also have like, 88 games on Steam atm lol, good luck finishing them all anytime soon =X. There are some console games that I do want access to since I'm a pretty broad gamer so I do have a PS3 and Wii, sold 360 awhile back though, stopped paying for Live, and as we all know, without Live.... meh.....

xbla is not any better than the Playstation Network. Theres tons of people to play with in both and ps3 has better exclusive multiplayer games especially the ones coming soon.

Multiplayer is more about who your playing with then whgat your playing though so if you wanna play with your friends get what they have if you want the best games avaiable get a ps3

Hey, that's not true at all. 360 has more rpgs released to date and ps3 has more tps. theres a lot of upcoming jrpgs though for the ps3.

Most games are the same on both consolesthe only difference is exclusives and sony's exclusives are considerably better games then microsoft exclusives. get whatever your friends have, if they have 360s they dont know shit about games they are part of the online generation. less focus on quality and more focus on online multiplayer. I don't know any ps2 owners that have gone next gen and dont have a ps3 because sony gives you the best of everything. xbox has always appealed to children. The system looks like it was made by fisherprice. Playstation has this sleek sexy look and the 360 has a big colorful button lol.

youll prolly have more fun on 360 cause your friends have one and you can play together...but if you get a ps3 they will start wanting to spend more time at your place when you getthose beautiful exclusives.

I'm new to VGchartz and after browsing the forums and stuff it seems that this is a rather friendly community.                                                            So I figured I can ask this question without persecution.

My Birthday is coming up in a few months and Ive been trying to figure our what to get. I gut is telling me to go with the PS3 because there are some games that interest me on it and free online service is always a plus. I really like both the single player experience and multiplayer experience games have to offer. My friend tells me I will make the wrong choice if I get a ps3 because he says the online service is far inferior to the Xbox360. I don't have a Xbox360 or a PS3 and I don't know much about either so I have no idea if he's telling the truth or not, he claims that I wont be able to find anyone online to play with so I better get used to playing alone with the PS3.

So that is how I ended up here, I came to post on this forum because I need more opinions than just my friend's. Is PS3 the right choice? Or is there a better choice for me?

Well OP as you can see on this gaming forum or any other the PS3/PSN comunitity is fairly large and are very active online, I have never had a problem to find people to play with and against on the titles I have.

If you like the Titles that are on the PS3  and you can get one, the PS3/PSN comunitity will welcome you to share the online experience, however Xbox live offers a more integrated experience with universal party systems and cross game voice chat, the PSN offers similar things but they arent as well integrated as Xbox live. Xbox Live is a Paid For service and PSN is Free of cost. Only you can decide what matter most to you.

P.S you should get the systems that offers the games and experiences you are looking for and decide accordingly.

u say u dont have a 360 then why did u put that u have 360 games?? O.o

I had a 360 and Got the RROD I switched to ps3 and never been happy about it. Online is not way better in the 360 is a lie. Games and coming up games are just stepping all over 360. But if u decide the 360 is ok nobody will tell
u anything is just personal choices. I already had 2 friends that swithched to the ps3 and never will go back to 360 but if u want halo then 360 is for you
