Forums - Gaming - Square Enix is lazier than Nintendo...

"SquareEnix Quarterly report from last year. I didn't hear them taking money specifically from Dragon Quest, but as past evidence has shown from those reports, they do use their money from their combined company to fund both sides now. So its only logical a portion of the money they just made from their massive DQIX sales has to go into the development and marketing costs of FFXIII, which was going way over deadline."

That's not a bad thing. That's done all the time, even before this gen. I thought you meant they took development money (like what was done with Superman IV).

But the fact that FFXIII even needed that shows how these "grand visions" of HD gaming are way over the line (not that the graphic are a bad things, I mean the cost, time, and focus).

But that's for another thread. The point of this thread is I think that S-E isn't lazy as much as needs a focus adjustment (if they aren't doing it already).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I hate how my "editorial" became a disscussion between hishiru and rage-bot

To tell  you the truth, I think Square Enix is completely right. They can't open their IP for every fan that appears with a project. What if they want to make a remake in the future using their resources, employes, design etc? You are just seeing things the way you want. I am a CT fan and I am happy that SE didn't accepted this fan project, because after all, it's just a fan project.

Well, on the one hand I'm somewhat happy that fan project didn't come to fruition as well.  Simply because I grow tired of a million 'remakes' and fans trying to relive the NES/SNES games in 3D.  But on the other hand...what exactly is SquareEnix doing to improve/expand the Chrono series?  A DS enhanced port after a 13 year hiatus?  ANd then some CEOs teasing us saying 'if you want more Chrono games, buy the DS port' only to turn around and say 'people must not like Chrono cuz the game sold poorly' (when it sold a million copies).

Clearly its just another example of the guys at SquareEnix only caring about focusing on series that they know can sell multi-million and just jumping back to the safety of Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts.  With this kind of mentality, why should we keep waiting for SquareEnix to bring out a new Chrono game?  Or any new game that isn't FF/KH/DQ.

Yeah, I agree. Chrono Trigger has a lot of potential (as a series) and it should be continued but I doubt SE will make anything to continue the series.

Chrono Trigger DS is the second port of the same game and the enhancements aren't that big IMO (but it sold well, probably because of the name) and they wanted to see this game selling millions... It's really hard to understand. The worst part is that they are blaming the fans because this second port without any big enhancements isn't selling more than 1 million.

What makes me angry are those Crystal Chronicles games. Why can't they spend resources with a new Valkyrie's Profile or a new Chrono game?

CUz it doesn't have the name 'Final Fantasy' or 'Kingdom Hearts' in the title.

All jokes aside, recently Wada actually came out and admitted that 'perhaps', just 'perhaps' his company and vision had been on the wrong course and in the future, they should focus on making less Final Fantasy titles and focus on making more new IPs.  What a novel idea...  Will this lead to also reviving some of the dying/dead properties like Chrono, Mana, Bushido Blade, Front Mission, etc?  We'll see.
